I don't know if any of you have seen the black Testarossa advertised by Beverly Hill Car Club. It has a two tone interior where carpet, seats inserts and part of door panels are dark red. The front trunk also has the same color carpet and is very worn. Which makes it look original to the car. Could this be a factory special order option ?
Mats are not original, and considering the amount of weirdness, I'd bet it was Nero/Nero. This corroborates that also - wthiet https://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1975-ferrari-308gt4-c-14537.htm
He is quite a character! Kerry was quite active here some years ago here. I even met him and had a few drinks with him here in Quebec City as he was responsible for leading the rig of a rock band. But he ended up, I think, being ousted from here or quit on his own because he got a little too often « vigorous » with comments towards other members of this community. Too bad because he could be hilarious at times. and he always signed his posts with a preposition followed by the word « me » which I was found of. But that’s just me lol!
Yes now I kind of remember him. I found him on facebook and saw pictures of his Testarossa and I also think it's his former car. I asked him but no answer yet.
I enjoyed his posts immensely. Very witty. We HAVE had some incredible people on Ferrari Chat and still do. This is SUCH an awesome group.
Yes...that is Kerry's old Testarossa - - - - and prior to him - - - - it was my Testarossa. I see the old girl is for sale again. I bought that TR many years ago at a low price because it needed tons of work, and had a spotty history....oh the horror stories I could tell about that car!!!! I think I did an engine-out service on it twice while I owned it. That two tone interior is a mystery. I removed some of the interior pieces to install a manual seat belt system, and the black and maroon leather looked original. The guy I bought the car from said it was ordered that way, but I was never able to verify that, very similar to a "Koenig" interior scheme. Even though that car has a storied past, it ran and drove great.
Well...it looks like the old girl has been sold...I hope the new owner drives the dickens out of her.
The TR probably sold at a price that was commensurate with it's condition and history. It was a tight and rattle-free car, ran and drove very well. And the owner can drive it without fear - so they will get a lot of enjoyment out of her.
Also....I would like to clarify my previous comment regarding "horror stories". There were a lot of issues with that TR when I got it, again price was in line with condition. Most all of the issues were mechanical or electrical and I fixed them. If the new owner finds this thread, they can contact me - and I'll be happy to tell them everything about the car, the repairs I made, I also know most of the things Kerry did as well.
It does look like a Koenig interior, but nothing else on the car suggests it was ever at a Koenig shop, no modifications for turbo's...etc....so I was never absolutely sure.
I suspect you are correct. We did a few special order requests when ordering new TRs. Even though it was rather rare Ferrari was happy to do it for a price. Never saw an interior like that but am confident Ferrari would have been happy to do it. Most buyers were far more interested in doing what was popular for resale purposes.
https://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1987-ferrari-testarossa-c-15986.htm I'll go with aftermarket. The mats don't have the heel pads, the trunk carpet would normally have a round opening for the brake reservoir. This green interior one is factory ordered. https://www.gallery-aaldering.com/ferrari-testarossa-1989/
There are a lot of reasons the trunk carpet is not original. Its not even close but many of those were changed. Many cars were delivered with non matching trunk carpet and it annoyed people so the changed it. The floor mats, just like the trunk are not even close. They also look a different color and being the high wear interior part have less wear so replaced at a date far after the car was built. The carpet in general is poor quality, poor installation and poor condition. I would have a very hard time believing the lousy carpets were done by someone who could not even do a decent job replicating the originals were done by the same shop who did a quality job on the vastly more difficult seats. The non original carpet also covers the vertical surface behind the seats instead of being leather and the triangular leather bolster at the edge of the luggage shelf is missing. There is no question there is much here that is not original but does not change my opinion the leather "May" have been original but we really have no way from photos alone to know.
I have pictures of far worse than that but they are from a private collection and am not allowed to post them.
Hello garguy, I am the new owner and also new on this chat The car is in the Netherlands and started on full restauration Fred
