    Hi all,

We (Wife & myself) might have to spend about 2 weeks in Denver area, hence a few questions :

    - What is the best lodging option (most luxurious or so) ?
    - What are the do's and don't('s ?) ?
    - Any activities to suggest ?
    - What is the best time of the year to visit ?

    Thanks in advance.

Since you are from Switzerland you must ski. I would say come in January-March and go to Vail. I've never skied the Alps but I would imagine Vail would be a good comparison.

Frankly, downtown Denver isn't anything too special, but the mountains to the west (about 2 hours from the city) are great.

So DO come for world class skiing. DON'T come for a world class city.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I live about an hour from the mountains.

Tell us what you like to do and we can give you better advice. Colorado offers world class outdoor recreation year round. Anything from leisurely golf to extreme rock climbing, rafting and skiing.

Hotel Teatro. The best and has a great retaurant. Small. Upscale.

Fall or June. July & August OK but HOT 90sF)

You will want to do LODO (Lower Downtown Denver) larimer & 16th st. Great bars and restaurants. Concierge at Teatro can lead you to ALL the right places.

Summer. Go to a Rockies game.
Drive to Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park and go over Trail Ridge Road. Stanley Hotel and see car museum.
Arvada. Harry Mathews has largest McLaren collection in the world.
    Boulder. Shelby collection.
go to Opera in Central City 45 min away.

Fall. Take in a Broncos game. Tickets are very hard to get but if you pay you can get.
We like to go to Imax theater.
Live theater 1 block from Teatro. Talk to concierge. Get tickets ahead of time.

Anytime. Go to Colorado Springs and see the US Air force Academy, Pikes Peak and the Broadmoor Resort (owners of Teatro)

(Or you can come to Aspen. There's more to do and better places to stay. Very European and lots of Europeans here. Dec-Mar, June-Spet. PS. I lived in Denver for 20+ YEARS)

Hi all, many thanks for your advice.

Actually we don't ski, and have to be in Denver, so Apsen/Veil is not an option, sadly.

I'll have a look at the hotel you mentionned.

    Thanks again.

Will you have a rental car? If so, and if you have a free day, a drive up to Boulder (about 45 minutes north of Denver) is recommended. It is the quintessential outdoorsy, hip town.

The Brown Palace is another hotel option. It's more old style service than new and hip.

Cherry Creek is a upper scale part of Denver that has some good restaurants (I recommend "North") and shopping.

When are you coming to town?

    Hi,

yes, i will have a rental car. I hope Hertz has the luxury collection available in Denver as well...!

Side trips are probably a good option, indeed.

For the timing either around May or September, it's not fully clear !

Don't you know, the abbreviated menu is the "in" thing these days? :)

Actually, Elway's should be on your list for dinner.

During that time frame, there should be a local Ferrari get together or two. Be sure to remind people when the time comes and I'm sure you could hook up with some local Ferrari owners, if that interest you.

    Some other thoughts.

If its a nice day you could drive over Squaw Pass via Evergreen and Idaho Springs. In the summer you can go to the top of Mt Evans. Over 14,000 ft. go early in the day to avoid afternoon storms.

You can usually see eld in Evergreen and buffalo right off of I-70.

The Little Bear is a fun place for dance and music. Smoke free Fridays.

Isn't all of Colorado smoke free since July 2006? One of the best laws ever passed in this state.
