Can you please advise from experience what tyre brand and model works best on the 328 Seems to be a leaning to Bridestone Potenza Many Thanks
Most people tend to lean towards Pirelli tires but my experience with them is not so great. I fitted Potenza's to my BMW M3 and my son's 318is and they are BRILLIANT! Definitely my choice in about 5 months. Bob.
Do a quick search of the forum and I think you will find a lot of people have put Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 on their 328s. Not all Bridgestones are the same (there are many models of Potenza). If going with a Bridgestone I'd go with the RE11 (Potenza). I'd probably skip Pirelli. Best regards, Dino
I just noticed that qvee is an Aussie as well. Here in Australia, they sell the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenilin RE001. That's the one I am going to get. Bob.
Ditto the reco on the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. Great tire, runs quiet, straight and with good adhesion in the wet and dry. Consistently ranked the highest by Tirerack.com.
I've seen a few Aussie forums for jap cars talking about the RE11's , , even Bridgestone rates them higher than the Adrenelin ............... maybe the RE11's can be sourced here if Bruidgestone australia dont bring them in themselves........... ??
Last year I replaced my Pirelli P6000 on the car with new ones and immediately found the handling to be terrible. I subsequently found out that the new Pirelli tyres available for 328's are not so good, and have weaker side walls. I have therefore changed all the tyres to Goodyear Eagle F1's and am very happy with these. Hope this helps
I recently replaced my old Pirrelli's with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres. They're not reccomended for the wet and probably won't last high miles but for the amount of mileage I get to do they'll last at least a couple of years. They stick to the road (literally). Unfortunately they stick so well that quite often they pick up grit and debris from the road surface and trow it up in the wheel arches. Otherwise I like them a lot. Mark Taiwan/UK
Got them on my GT4 and love them. Ex girlfriend Ivonne has them on her 328 and was happy with them too. They seem to last pretty long too. Hans
I think the RE11 is the replacement for the RE01Rs. The RE11s sold in the US are a different compound than the RE11s that came out in Japan, initially. I don't know if the JDM versions have been updated, nor which compound is sold in Australia. I put (US market) RE11s on my 328. The USDM RE11s are auto-X tires, and are very soft. That gives you grip without having to warm them up, but I suspect they're intended for a lower profile application than the 328's stock sizes. They don't go off sitting at traffic lights, but they don't seem to have the crisp turn-in response the S-03s they replaced had. Unless most of your driving is in the city (as is my case), I'd recommend going for the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s. If you don't drive in the rain much, another option would be the Yoko A050s. Tire Rack can heat cycle them before delivery, which improves longevity. I don't know what sources would be like in Australia, nor what the different shipping and mark-ups would do to the price comparison. (E.g. Goodyears might be expensive, compared to Japanese tires.)
Thanks so much everyone for taking the time Seems to be Goodyear by a majority HNY 2010 Regards David
I would prefer the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position tread wear of 140,tread pattern looks right for the 328, the Goodyear F1 G3-D3 i don't know what the tread wear is but the tread pattern does not look right for an older car like the 308/328.
I replaced a set of Bridgestones with Goodyear F1 Eagles, best upgrade i ever made to my car. I ran them all summer and through a couple of serious downpours and they were fantastic in all conditions.
The tread wear on Goodyear F1-GS-D3 is 280. The Potenza RE50A are ok. But if you check Tireracks performance surveys and comparison to other max performance summer tires, the F1-GS-D3 has higher numbers and ranks # 2 and the REO50A ranks #15. There is an REO 50A Pole Position, that ranks I believe # 5 or 6 in the comparision. The top rated tire was the Micheline Pilot Sport PS2, but I don't believe they make sizes that fit a stock 328 wheel. If I were getting Bridgestones I'd go with the RE-11, if you want the ROE50A I'd suggest getting the Pole Position REO50A. Best regards, Dino
Pirelli Pzero Nero seems to work well, not too sticky, allows good feel and breakaway characteristics, probably closer to what the car was designed for than leading edge modern tires. Tread pattern looks good for the vintage as well, and it is Italian. Multi-line/Pirelli dealer actually said this was the only Pirelli tire that he thought was competitive to other alternatives.
For warm weather use, the Goodyear F1-GS-D3 is a great tire for the 328. Not recommended for cold use. I also bought them because the OEM tires were Goodyears (at least in the States), FWIW.
Do you actually have experience with Pzero Neros? I have a set of the Pzero neros on my Wife's car, and I would not buy them again. They are ok on a sport sedan, but not great, and I definitely would not put them on a sports car, even a 20+ year old sports car. I would not buy tires to replicate the limits of what was available 20 years ago when the car was new. The tires available back then were nothing great. Tire technology has come a long way in 2 decades. I'd rather go with a more leading edge modern tire that will give you more grip, better steering response, and possibly shorter stopping distances, but to each his own. Best regards, Dino
This is what I currently have on my 328 and as I said originally, I can't wait to get rid of them. Bob.
