For an absolutely comprehensive, expert major on a 355, who would you take your car to? Anywhere in the continental U.S. Dollars are not the point, but obviously one wants to feel they'll have fair value received. Dealers or independents. If dealer, is there a specific tech? I've done region searches and picked up some ideas but haven't seen an inclusive listing. Recommendations?

P.S., feel free to PM if you don't want to tout one good source over another. Thanks for any responses.

Obviously as I do not live in the USA I have not had first hand experence but this guy seems to keep his customers very happy, and their car happier http://www.eugeniosferrariservice.com/

On a side note, while a shops reputation is important, how you get along with them is also a consideration, I would rather take my car to a shop where I know the staff, they know me, and they understand my expectations without me needing to tell them. It is more of a matter of starting a relationship with a shop, that way you can build an understanding and let the guys get to know your car.

I think within 30 mins of walking around a workshop looking at the workmanship of the cars they are working on will give you an understanding of what level they work too. If everything is clean, tidy and looks to be well set up. And they know Ferrari's, in particular the 355 well, then this will shine through.

I would pick a top class independent over a dealer.

    My choices:
    - Brian Crall Company Inc. in San Ramon, CA
    - Scuderia Rampante in Boulder, CA
    - Norwoods Performance in Dallas, TX
    - Jim Lindsey in Kenner, LA
    - Competizione & Sports Cars in Gaithersburg, MD
    - Tim Stanford Foreign Cars in Ft Lauderdale, FL
    - Moorespeed in Austin, TX

Apologies for the good guys I have missed.

All the shops listed above are excellent choices. I would unhesitatingly recommend them.

May not be the cheapest choices but you will get VALUE for your money. No corners cut. Perfect advice on what needs to be done. Decades of experience.

I personally picked Norwoods for my major service. I am extremely happy with them. They have gone above and beyond the kind of service a car dealer typically performs.
    - Approachable
    - Provide great advice on what should be done, could be done, need not be done. They are not there to sell X, Y, Z to you
    - Pictures along the way
    - Frequent updates to keep you well informed
    - tons of experience with old and new Ferraris
    - Completely honest and trustworthy.
    - Excellent and transparent pricing - you know what you are going to pay up front and you will pay that.

Many great sources in the country...personally I'd trust my car to Pocono Sportscar in Eastern PA for any major service.

Without doubt, without question, the answer is Dave Helms - Scuderia Rampante. It just doesn't get any better. The man is a mechanical genus.

Great input, thanks everyone! I think I'm down to 2 possibles, partly based on geography. I'll let you know how this comes out after an inquiry or two. Once again, the F-chat community comes through!

(I'm tryin' to butter ya'll up in preparation for the "seat dyeing/re-covering" thread!! Coming soon.)

Dave Helms is also a genius when it comes to the electrical systems on our cars. In my experience it is rare to find a shop that is expert in both aspects, and understanding the electrical systems on 348/355's is critical to having a correctly running car.

My Bad, Eric! How could I have missed stating that. What I should have said is just good old fashioned "genus", as the man is just amazing in all aspects. I wish I was 1/2 as good at what I do, as Dave is as master technician.
