For those of you in the southeast U.S., the annual National convention of the International Plastic Modelers' Society will occur this coming Wednesday thru Saturday, 8/7-8/10, at the Chattanooga Convention Center downtown. This is expected to be the largest such convention in the 56-year history of the society. There will be a major model contest with cars, of course, along with aircraft, military vehicles, ships, spacecraft, miniature figures, sci-fi, dioramas and more. The vendor room will be the biggest ever seen at an IPMS Nationals, so for four days, it will be (by far) the world's largest model shop! If you're looking for an old car kit, it might be a good place to try. For those of you who do build models, there will be a full slate of seminars by master modelers. General admission is $12 per day, and children under 16 are free. The best times for seeing the contest models will be on Friday afternoon until 5:30 (when the room will close for judging) and Saturday from 9:00 to 3:00.
