Never been to either, but from talking to others, and seeing the photos and reading the posts, you MUST go to the race in Montreal!

If for no other reason, you have to at least leave the country to see an F1 race.

Although I haven't been to Indy for the F1 race, I've been to the city and the speedway on several occasions. The idea of an F1 race there just doesn't excite me.

On the other hand, I've been to the Montreal race a number of times and have always enjoyed it. Due to security, you can't see much of the track anymore except from a grandstand seat, and hotel prices have gotten very high. Other than that, I recommend Montreal whole-heartedly.

Besides, it has always seemed to me that a race called a "Grand Prix" should be seen in a city where French is spoken!

I have been to both twice, and even though I live in MTL, I can tell you it is the place to be as far as Activities, parties, WOMEN...

There are several threads about this that you should check out. Do a search.

Have been to both and liked both. Montreal offers more from a city perspective, Indianapolis is holy ground in motorsports.

After several years of USGP I'm going back to Montreal this year.

No brainer.....go to Canada. I have been to both and the Canadian GP feels like a GP, the US GP feels like a NASCAR event with wings and grooved tires.

Well, in case you actually need to hear it again, then "Montreal". Seriously, it's more of what a GP weekend should be like. All the racing, set in a beautiful city with more hot women than is believable. Indy is Indy. As long as you have to travel from out West, might as well do Montreal.

At this juncture in time your choice may be determinted by where you can stay and how you are going to get there! We've been to both several times and if you want the "European F1 Flair" then by far it's Montreal. We are definitely not into the "hot woman" thing or the need to party so obviously our views are a bit different than most of the posters. We go to Indianapolis as we can drive there in about 15 hours and it's a cheap F1 race for us - but . . our real F1 loyalities remain with San Marino and Spa where we find ourselves every year. In Montreal, we've stayed in Laval (Sheraton was substantially cheaper than downtown) and would just drive to the Namur station (free parking - a super WalMart adjacent for food goodies) and take the subway to the track. In Montreal, dinner at JV's restaurant - Newtown - is something to do - reservations are a must and there were only two seatings for dinner - little $$ also. The slot machines in the Casino on the Island (race track) are quite tight.

    Enjoy whatever you do.

Canada is the 1st choice if money is no object. I am not saying Canada is expensive, but Grandstand seats more than Indy. The subay system is great. In Montreal is a wonderful city and if date is correct the International Fireworks Competion free. They block of the bridge so the public can walk out on it. The fireworks are going off at almost eye level (for those of from Orlando it beats
Disney, Epcot, Universal). You can leave the track during the day and be back at your hotel in 30 minutes even on race day.
Indy more affordable but not as convient. The hotels in
Indy up there price for race weekend as they do Montreal,
but the surrounding towns are reasonable but the drive in makes for a day at the track. If your driving and chose Indy get a parking package ( we use lot 1 intering the lot
off Gergetown except for raceday then we inter lot 1 off a numbered street (I can't remember the number). When the race is over we are home b4 midnight we live 90 miles
west of Kansas City. The North Vista (turn 4) is our favorite
    at Indy.
Montreal we like, I believe Grandstand 15 (it is a silver ticket) it is the hairpen before startfinish. You can see the rotors glow as they break for this turn.
I vote for Montreal if you can get tickets. The general admission tickets are about the same as Indy but viewing is limited so you have to get there early. At indy they have a berm you can watch from.

Suggestion: at least one evening after the race, go to Crescent Street for dinner. There are numerous restaurants of different types, some with sidewalk seating and others with large open windows. Aside from the food, people- and car-watching are both first rate. (Last time I was there, they closed off the street on Saturday and had a car show and music festival.)

Take the Metro to the Guy/Concordia station and walk east a couple of blocks.

I wonder how this subject will change next year when we'll also have the Mexican GP to choose from.

As far as I'm concerned, I know the answer already: Cancun, here I come!
