Sounds pretty serious...lots of conjecture around disease or PEDs, but I am certain it's the latter. He was asked to clear stuff up, so my bet is he was using something to help cut weight.

All things being considered, you can't complain with the Story / Brenneman fight. I think Story bit off more than he could chew fighting so quickly, but Brenneman is a tough draw for a lot of fighters.

Man, I felt for Pat Barry - not to mention how disturbing he looked after getting his bell rung.

And what's the deal with the ref not calling Oliveira's illegal knee? That's a bad job right there...

    The plot thickens:

    http://www.5thround.com/80000/nate-marquardt-did-not-fail-drug-test/

So Marquardt did not fail a drug test, and Pennsylvania's HIPAA laws prevent disclosure of why he was suspended. However, it notes that a fighter must:

"Provide negative HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatits C surface antigen exams..."

For Dana to say he's "disgusted" with Nate, is it possible he tried to fight while knowing he had a blood borne illness?

    That is scary...

Yes, not only that, I have heard he's extremely tough to roll with.

I am 42 and a blue belt, so there's hope for me yet - he's in his 60's and got a black belt.

    War Ed O'Neil!

If this is true, then he got the shaft. Why is it that Chael gets a slide, but not Nate?

By the way - with all due respect to Nate, the whole hormone replacement sounds fishy to me. You are seeing more and more athletes game the system by claiming they need it - we're getting into a gray area now, and my opinion is that it shouldn't be allowed.

    FWIW.

Because Chael was caught after the fact and Dana White got his main event, whereas Nate was leading the UFC and PAC right up until the day of the fight with regards to being medically cleared to fight.

Regardless, I never liked Nate so I can't say I'm too upset about this.

Tito won, Tito won!!!!!!!!!!! His trainer Jason Parillo is my boxing trainer also. I was glad to see Tito give Jason his props!!!!!! I actually really enjoyed the fights. Poor Wanderlei, But i'm happy for Leben. And i think i give Cruz a little more respect after that fight. I would have loved to see Faber win but, oh well!!!!!

Haha........sorry man, didn't think anyone noticed. You just like to rag on my awful picks! :)

I watched my DVR'd Versus card.......wow, was really impressed with Joe Lauzon. The guy came in and just got down to business. He looked awesome.

Beautiful win for Brown over Howard. Felt bad for Barry.

As for UFC 132......Cruz is such an impressive fighter. The guy literally floats. I really would like to see the rubbermatch between these two.

Painful to watch Wandy go down like that. Time to hang the gloves up.

Am I the only one that thought Wiman won that fight? Siver got so bloodied up, and impressed me that he even survived. But to get the decision? I don't agree with that one.

Hats off to Tito. He did what he had to do, and in a very impressive fashion. I hope he can keep it going.

Condit needs to get the next title shot. He's freaking good! Guillard should be right there at LW as well. He looks better and better since joining the Jackson camp.

WTF is going on with Sotiropoulos? The guy was looking like he was a top contender but has been looking like crap lately. He really needs to improve his standup.

    Great week of UFC!

    Happy 4th guys!

Reem was yanked from the SF 'Grand Prix' (if you can call it that) and replaced. Seems he pissed off Zuffa by not wanting to fight too soon after Werdum. What a real joke SF and their GP is. Safe to say we'll never see him fight likes of Cain or JDS.

I think this is Zuffa's way of saying it's either MMA or K-1, but not both.

Ummmmm.....Zuffa is flying high right now, but they have to be careful with their release tactics. Letting Marquardt go was a mistake, I believe. If they let Overeem get away, then they are fools. If they want to remain the top of the heap, they need the top talent. They seem to be wanting to make a statement to the fighters that no fighter is above them, and they will release you whenever they feel like it, no matter how great you are. Zuffas' heads are rather large right now.......

^ Too bad Zuffa's primary business is creating and marketing fighters, rather than showcasing raw talent.

I'm a huge Overeem fan, but Dana White can discredit him very easily with the usual "he hasn't fought a top contender in years" song and dance he does every time he tries to smear a fighter (Fedor, for example). This is particularly easy for him to do, given that the average UFC fighter probably doesn't have a clue who he is.

With regards to Marquardt, who really cares? Not me, and certainly not the UFC.

I care. I like Marquardt, and I think he is a top talent. I think the release was unwarranted. To each their own.

You know, their policy of cutting people has always perplexed me - I do believe one day it's going to haunt them.

Personally, I have always thought Andy Grove's "Only the Paranoid Survive" is a critical reference to any business, especially those with a commanding share / presence. FWIW.

The UFC cutting a fighter (who had previously been suspended for steroid usage) for failing his physical the day of the fight is considered unwarranted?
