Aldo couldn't use his no. 1 weapon, his leg kick. he hurt his foot early he said... "he said". No, your right, there really isn't anyone in that division right now. even Zombie wasn't too worthy. The fight was just boring to me.
Machida was robbed. I thought he controlled the whole fight and scored a large majority of significant strikes. Davis had a couple of takedowns but quickly lost position and did no damage. I had it, at worst 29-28 Machida. The wife and I watched the fights at the Harley Davidson Museum (they host a fight night for nearly every PPV). They had Anthony Pettis there to promote his upcoming fight at UFC 164. He was accompanied by a bunch of other Duke Rufus fighters as well. Everyone thought it was a bad decision. I was sad to see Jung injured. I thought he was starting to come on real strong and was starting to take control. The fight was starting to go his way. I'd definitely like to see a rematch. Mark
I agree. Aldo is in a class of his own. He will destroy Money mendes in rematch. He needs to fight Bendo-pettis victor IMHO.
I wonder if I'll get to see the free event this weekend. On Aug. 17th, Fox Sports 1 debuts, but as of now, DirecTV has no deal with them. This is the new home for UFC events.....
Bellator announced a HUGE match today: Michael Chandler vs Eddie Alverez II !!!!!!!!!!! The first fight was CRAZY! It will be on the undercard of Tito vs Rampage.
So happy that Fox Sports 1 struck a deal with DirecTV. Not a bad card on Saturday night. Mad props to Sonnen (I can sense Armen cringing as he reads this!). What an incredible win. There was no doubt he was taking Shogun down, but a submission that quickly? Very, very nicely done. Another shocker with Browne beating Overeem. Who would have thought Overeem would be off to such a bad start in his UFC career? I tryuly thought he'd be plowing through everyone. And Matt Brown? Seriously? This guy is on a tear! I've liked him since he was on TUF, and the guy is truly fighting at a whole new level from where he was when he left TUF. His comment about beating Pyle, and Pyle being better than GSP was ridiculous though. Urijah Hall. I was expecting so much more from this guy. Sad to see Lauzon lose - he is one of my faves. McDonald looked very good, but seemed to have a tad tougher time than he expected.
Cringe.... More like Cringe x 10!!! WTF!!!! Is Shogun serious. Getting Choked out???? What the F!!!!! Man was I pissed off. On top of that, Overeem getting KO'd: Same reaction. It was a fun card though. I was happy to see Faber totally dominate atleast.
The wife and I will be at 164 nice and close! We're pulling for Pettis even though I think Bendo will take him this time. Mark
Should be a great fight, but I'm not sure about Bendo. He didn't look all that great IMHO against Edgar (although I know Edgar is tough), and I think Pettis is PO'd - has something to prove since he wasn't given an immediate title shot. But, that's why they fight them!!!

Some thoughts on last night's UFC Fight Night - The play-by-play / announcing team on Fox sucks. Best 2 were Florian and Chael, who are fighters by trade. I miss Rogan and Goldberg. - What was the judge that scored 30-27 for Whittaker smoking? Whittaker was borderline dominated, at best it was a 29-28 for McGee...ridiculous, I would have stopped watching if Whittaker won that fight - Same with Mizugaki / Perez - how does one judge score that 29-28 Perez? What the heck was he / she watching?? - Gastelum looked impressive. If he can control his energy in the event he needs to go deeper into a fight, he could be something - Is it me or has Cerrone moved backwards? I remember Cowboy more like the last round of this fight - in control, pressing the action. Not to take away from Dos Anjos, but this reminded me of Cerrone / Diaz. When Cerrone is on, he can beat almost anyone. Unfortunately, his last few fights, he looks disinterested. Bummer. - Condit is cursed being the second best behind an all time legend. Kampmann is no joke, Condit methodically ripped him. That was a great performance - patient and calculated. - At the end of his interview, Dylan Andrews reminded me of my 9-year old daughter when she gets a "boo boo". He's limping around like a child...ok, maybe he got hurt, but even my wife was laughing - "what's wrong with that guy and his fake limp". Surprised Elkins beat Hioki - good fight. Not a bad card for a freebie.
Gastelum is a monster! That guy was very impressive on TUF, and is just as impressive now. He will definitely be a player. I would love to see him get a top 10 opponent next, even though he has only fought 1 time. I agree with you about Cerrone. I am a fan of his, but something's off. Condit looked incredible in this fight. The 1st round looked a little shaky, but after that, he was cool, calm, and collected, and went about his work in a meticulous way. Very nice win by him. Not sure if it will be earning him a title shot next..........maybe have him go against the winner of Lawler/Rory next.......? Or would love to see him against Demian Maia, even though Maia is facing Shields next.
Yes, Cerrone has a lot of personal issues outside the ring. Man, Condit looked GREAT. He was controlled in the first round, changed his game and just DOMINATED Kampmann.
Pettis - wow! I thought he would, but not by first round sub! Not shocked by Barnett either, when he's on, he's a bad dude. Big shock for me was Guidance getting KOd, I think first time in his career...
Yeah, Pettis and Barnett both looked amazing. I loved Pettis' offer to fight for either his belt or Aldo's........would love to see that, but I can't imagine the UFC would have 1 guy with 2 belts at the same time. Vera actually looked decent, but a monster like Rothwell just doesn't stop moving forward. Nice win by him. A very good card overall. If fight wasn't decided by a stoppage, it was a close decision.
Great card. I'm very happy to see Pettis take the belt. He looked amazing. I don't know how great his round kicks looked on TV, but they looked vicious in person. Mark
I really enjoyed the card last night! Barnett is so underrated. For YEARS I said he is one of the best Heavys around. Well Maybe time is catching up with him but i'll give him a world of credit last night!!! Poor Ben Henderson, I really liked him as a Champ but I always felt he was the weakest link amongst current UFC champs. Props to "Showtime"! Mendes looked AWESOME, But what could he do with Aldo?????? (again) Vera... What was he thinking. Boy after Rothwell did "His Dance Thing" Vera fell right into it. MOVE AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! He was fighting smart till then.
Pettis vs Aldo would be amazing. Mendes' striking improved but he would still get waxed by Aldo. TJ Grant vs Pettis would also be exciting. Bendo will be back, Dana loves trilogy fights.
