Tonight I had an iPod, iPod car charger, wallet (with $20, drivers liscense and other semi-important things) all the change in my cup holders my ALTOIDS and a card that I wrote down all the lifts I do at the gym (wtf did they take that for?) stolen from my car in a shady parking lot at a friends apartment. ugh.

Yes, I know bigger and better things have been stolen from other people, but the fact that it happened to me SUCKS.

Get this: how did they get in? my back pasenger window was down maybe 2 inches. When I stuck my hand in there, I didnt even get it as far as my forearm, yet someone found a way to reach all the way down and unlock the door, and precede to steal pretty much everything in the car.

In the big picture, it's not actually THAT bad, just inconvient. Those things can be replaced, nobody was hurt and my loss totals maybe $300. It is just aggravating that this happened! I just got off of school today, and was having a good night, went out to go for a food run and found that! This is the first time something actually meaningful has been stolen from me, and I gotta admit, its a pretty ****ty feeling!

    Unbelivable, some people.

    end of rant.

That's why I store nothing of value in my car, except for the street directory...

Crime of opportunity. I was with a buddy of mine and we went to lunch in Houston. The car was locked but they broke in to get the change out of his ashtray. After they got in they were able to open the trunk and find his IPod and electric guitar.

Don't give them a reason to want to get inside.

I tend to leave my sports cars unlocked (the 308 and my MGB), as a few years ago I had the radio stolen out of my 'B' while it was parked outside my shop!! Yeah, I was 15 feet away, inside! Fortunately I had left the doors unlocked so they didn't smash any windows, just opened up a door, grabbed the radio and bailed. Since the MG doesn't have a dome light and it was dark outside when I left that night, I reached to turn the radio on and instead of being greeted by Quadrophenia I was greeted by one hellatious electric shock where the wires were left hanging from when they ripped the radio out.

I do know that violated feeling you speak of but I figured I'd look at the bright side of the situation (no broken glass or jimmied door handles) and for another $200 I could put another Alpine CD player back in the car rather than make an insurance claim over it.

I rarely lock the 308, mainly because of the sh**ty design so that when someone tries to pull the door handle open with the doors locked, it can break the delicate cable inside the door (its already happened once, thanks to one of my idiot friends). The only thing of value in the car is again, a CD player which is ancient anyways so anyone who wants it....GO FOR IT!! Then I can have a valid reason to get the new Nakamichi deck I want!

The way I see it, if someone wants in bad enough, they're going to get in no matter what. So my theory is that the easier you make it, the less trashed your car *should* hopefully, get during that process.

Anyways, that sucks man. Should teach you not to leave your wallet in the car (that one's a BIG no-no). You didn't say whether or not they trashed the car, but if they didn't, be thankful for that.

    Cheers,

Yeah, I was going to say, getting the stereo out is no big deal, but ripping apart the dash or console is the bad part. I had someone break into my car once, and you know what they stole ? A sleeve of golf balls, and an old pair of sunglasses....... and they bypassed a halliburton case that my Canon 400 2.8 was stored in that was in the back seat. It was empty as I had the lens with me, but the way I had the case situated, they didn't even move it to see if anything was in it......
