While I'm not disagreeing with ANY of those posted, I'll add Niki's car to the mix. However, I do think today's F1 cars are great looking which is the reason I'm adding the F2003 as a comparison; exception being the "fat-mouth bass" BMW posted by Imperial (the Walrus as he called it). That baby was gross. Dane Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
i'll take the 312 T anytime over any post 1990 F1 Ferrari! Granted the high intake looks a bit funny but the rest is perfect. The 312 T2 and T3 were even better.
I did some digging in my archive and found this shot I took in 1979 in the Motodrom: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I guess it's all academic anyway. Racing cars become better looking when they are fast. Even if they are ugly as balls. That's the real beauty.........
Very true. Patrick Head once said, that simple solutions are beautiful and good designs are often simple. His FW07 was a fine example of that.
C'mon you guys! I always thought that Arrows was kind of cool looking. Cars from the late 70s and early 80s were so unique, like that Alfa with the fat nose, the Ligier, etc.
There is something to be said about the cars in the 70's and 80 cars. Back then you could strip the paint off the cars and still know which one you were looking at. Not so these days. But still some of the designs were hideous looking, whether they worked or not.

Enzo called the Ferrari 312 T4 the ugliest race car he built. I actually like it ..... (this is a great picture of the ground effect in action) Image Unavailable, Please Login
pics are at the link. down towards the bottom of the page. http://www.f1nutter.co.uk/tech/6wheels.php
How about the Ferrari with the 4 rear wheels? Personally I found none of the six wheelers ugly, but a very interesting experiment in design. EDIT: I just realize tfazio's link mentions the Ferrari as well. From what I remember though it was different from the Williams as it had smaller rear wheels. Didn't look as much as that Williams freight train.
That was it's nickname - but after the tall airboxes were banned, Ligier's version of the low version transformed the same car into one of the best looking: http://www.racingsportscars.com/f1/1976/Brands_Hatch-1976-07-18-026.jpg Paul M
