When I hear the word "boxer" I think of the air-cooled VW and Porsche engines (well, and the Subaru as well) -- horizontally opposed cylinder layout. But I get the feeling that "boxer" has a different meaning in the Ferrari world. Search was helpless...I got just over a billion hits. And I'm assuming when people mention "archives" they mean "Search old Ferrari.com" -- which I did, to no avail.

    TIA!

made in the 70's and 80's. last year was 1984 when replaced by the Testarossa in 85. there were two versions, the 365 berlinetta boxer (aka BB)and the 512 berlinetta boxer. there were carb and injected versions of the 512. do a search for sammy haggar's 'i can't drive 55' video to see his black boxer.

and yes, the boxer was a flat 12 (hence, boxer)

Boxers are all old cars that really really really need lowering springs on their rear. :D

Here are some more facts to confuse you. The Ferrari boxer engine is not really a "boxer." In a true boxer engine, opposing pistons move toward each other on each stroke (e.g. like two boxers punching each other). This is accomplished by having the opposing pistons attached to different crankshaft journals. In the Ferrari flat-12 engine, opposing pistons are attached to the same crankshaft journal, causing one piston to "chase" the opposing one on each stroke. Therefore, in essence, the Ferrari "boxer" engine is really a 180" v-12 engine and the term "flat-12" is more appropriate from a technical standpoint.

A "Boxer" is also a participate in an athletic contest in a roped off area called a ring where each wears padded gloves and wins by knocking the other unconsious.

In the Netherlands a boxer is a dog, but I own a real boxer car and no dog, 1982 Alfa Romeo Alfasud. My first 'Sud also had a boxer trim, but that was to hide the rust.

He may be A boxer, but to afford THE boxer, he'll have to pack a lot of soup cans.
