I saw this before, and don't know if it's "real" or reproduced. My bet is it's the latter.

Even with an F1 engine, you'd expect the RPMs to have to "slide" from one "note" to another, not jump. (At least, unless Renault has found a way to negate angular momentum. ;))

That's what I was thinking. I'm sure they digitized the exhaust note and did the Casio thing with it--sort of like the dog barking out "Happy Birthday". Which would actually be cool if you could download it. The Renault, not the dog barking.

I had my doubts when I heard "We are the champions", but now I believe they actually managed to program the engine this way: Here you have a "live" video and you can hear the engine rev at the end and the fans cheer. Also you see the engineers standing there with the laptop that controls the engine. My money is on real.

I never doubted the Queen song and UK anthem were fake. Heck, if F1 teams can make a car rev to 19k+ for 2 weekends, this really isn't a problem.

But those fans would cheer the same way just for a regular fire-up and rev. And it takes several engineers just to start an F1 engine.

The sound effects may have been edited in later.

Remember the "fire-up" video with the after-race glowing exhaust from a couple of years back? Everyone cheered after that, too.

Even F1 engines don't go from 6000 RPM to 19000 RPM without passing through 7000, 8000, etc. -- and in every "fire-up" video (and at the end of this one), you hear it go through the range.

If you could get rid of angular momentum, the cars would be a durn sight faster through turns. ;)

But that would be like cheating. Renault never cheat, right? :)

Conspiracy theorists everywhere - unbelieveable !!!!!!

This is genuine - initially they created the French National Anthem for their end of season party last year and by this June at Goodwood they played both this and the British anthem for about 200,000 people - unless we are all liars of course - but then we're only Brits......

The laptop that starts the car has a little manual throttle and when there is a little warmth in the engine they start a program which revs the engine to make the tune - it is no different to a rolling road or test bed driving cycle

After all, they couldn't put it on the Internet if it wasn't true ... ;)

This is one I'd find hard to believe even if I'd seen it in person.

Shall we do the math? How much moving mass in an F1 engine -- pistons, rods, crankshaft, valves, etc?
How fast does the RPM have to shift to be missed by a 40Khz sample audio?

"... an exercise for the student", as they say.

If they could pull it off, I don't imagine the engine would be much good afterwards.

Oh, but wait: I forgot: According to FIA, there are no moving parts in F1 cars. :p

There's very little moment of inertia for the moving parts in an F1's engine. I really don't see why some people would doubt it. It's not perfect what they're playing and you can hear the revs change and go through different rpm to get to what it wants to be at. Maybe it's just me?

I believe it and I bet it could be done with any engine. Once Ferrari comes out with "Pizza and wine" (aka the Italian anthem) people on here will start to cheer. :)

Unfortunately Fisico will now receive a ten spot penalty at the Turkish GP because they had to change the engine after playing the British anthem. :)

I accept the runs at Goodwood are not very stressful however the car whose engine was playing the tunes was also the car running up the hill for the three days - it did more than one run and played more than one 'concert' per day

Silly me : its on the internet so its not real so they wouldn't need to perform an engine change between each run and/or performance and/or substitute the car and/or cheat in some other way..........

I've just looked at the video and it is the Goodwood performance and the guy on the left with headphones in front of the laptop is the controller

Maybe it was just the audio over my net connection. I didn't hear any "slide" between one note and another.

If they really can change RPM that fast without demolishing the engine, then at least I know why those things are so expensive.

How you say: "Don't try this at home." ;)

Well, my wife works at Goodwood and was on one of their stands on the Saturday. She heard it being played at least 6 or 7 times.

    So there. ;)

They were going to play we are the champions at Goodwood, but rumor has it that Goodwood told them no, they had to play God Save the Queen or nothing at all. Program was written and emailed to Goodwood, downloaded and viola.....during setup they were playing we are the champions, the next morning they were playing God Save the Queen.....so I have to think the rumor was true and as for if its real.......was there....was real

Correction - 200000 brits and one Texan - does that make its happening any more credible ?
