640bhp GTR smashes 0-100mph-0 time by half a second The Ultima Factory yesterday smashed the production car world record in an Ultima GTR for sprinting to 100mph and back to zero again beating times set by all manner of supercars. Driven by Ultima Director, Richard Marlow, the factory built Ultima GTR set a new world record time of 10.3 seconds to achieve 0-100mph-0 smashing the previous record by half a second. The British built super car stormed from 0-60mph in 2.8 secs and reached 100mph from standstill in an incredible 5.9 secs before coming back to rest a mere 4.4 secs later. All of the times were set by a standard, factory built, fully road legal, road tyred Ultima GTR built using all of the high spec factory specified and proven parts. The car was even equipped with a few luxuries such as air conditioning but no traction control devices; launch control systems or ABS braking aids were used. The car was fitted with its recommended Porsche G50 5 speed transaxle and normally aspirated 640BHP 377ci Chevrolet V8 engine which is a standard offering by the factory from its official engine suppliers American Speed. Ultima are particularly proud that their record time beat the legendary £630,000 McLaren F1 road car by well over a full second at less than one tenth of the cost! Richard Marlow, Director of Ultima Sports Ltd said The 0-100mph-0 test is believed by many to be the ultimate test for any car and is a true indicator of a cars all round performance ability. We havent strapped any timing gear onto one of our cars for a few years now and decided that the time was right to demonstrate to everybody how we have been successfully developing our product over the years and gained a world record in the process." Bouyed by his success, Richard continued, "We also wanted to go on to measure the 0-200mph-0 time at the relatively short Bruntingthorpe runway on the same day however severe rain and thunderstorms curtailed this for now but it didnt stop Ted from achieving a rather interesting 192mph pass in the wet on standing water with over 1500rpm still available! The test was conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology and the latest state of the art GPS timing gear was utilised to achieve and ensure maximum accuracy. A submission has been made to Guinness Book of Records. At least the record was broken by imo a decent car. Anyway, they made a mistake, they broke the LM's record, not the road car
Same thing can be said about the ****ing ugly ass enzo this settled it I don't think I will buy another new Ferrari ever again. I may go the vintage route. 1/3 the price, twice the performance, twice the potential, cheaper to own and maintain, cheaper to repair, better cornering, just over all a superior car to any f car
Congratulations to the Ultima GTR boys! Thats great news for them, and shows they have a seriously fast car. Ultimate test for any car...I'm surprised you guys haven't jumped on that little proclamation... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I hardly see how only going in a straight line really fast and then stopping in a straight line really quickly is the 'ultimate test for a car'...don't they also make roads with corners in them too? I'm not saying the Ultima GTR can't hold its own around a road course...but really, who are they 'many' people who believe that to be the ultimate test? Not me...I'm guessing most of you Ferrari guys don't think so either... Maybe they mean the Ultima's 'all round performance ability' is only going straight?
I have been a fan of the Ultima since I first saw one in 96 or 97. I have been very disappointed with Ferraris and the track, with the 333sp as the only bright spot (and my all time fave 4re). F1 is great and all, and is great for developing engine technologies, but the lack of serious WSC, IMSA, GTS, GT entrants shows how weak the actual commitment to road cars is and how out of touch they are to consumers. JT and RB moving up the ranks through F1 to road cars may help a little. Ferrari sees its road cars as the day job you hate, but make money at, just so on the weekends you can go and have some fun in an unrelated field. That 9-5 drudgery. I recognize my initial love of Ferrari is from the road going sports cars that have competed, and not F1, eventhough it is their reason for being. Edit: 0-100-0 is important considering they carry speed closer to the corners, and can accelerate out of them faster. Not to mention the skidpad on the Ultima is stuff of legend. I wonder if the Enzo, know to sell but become a road car flop, was intentionally set up so it could not race in current series. Enzo would be pissed I am sure to have their peak car, named for him, unable to perform in racing.
I don't agree with this statement. With multi-year wait lists, I'm pretty sure the customer is getting what they want. If not, they'd stop buying. That said, I think you just figured out that you're no longer a member of their "target audience". I think the Ultima is a great car for what it is, but my rossa corsa glasses have started to get clearer. I like the 612 and think its a great car, but its not worth 10 365 GT4's. At least to me, and if I'm the one writing the check, that's the only opinion that matters. Likewise, the new F430 is nice. But, I think for my case, a clean and sorted 308 GTB will do the trick as well. At least I can drive that car and feel like I'm flogging it and still only be driving reasonably quick. Maybe I'm just getting old...
The GTR is nice, and seems to be able to travel with superbike acceleration... Anyone have any insight on the 0-100-0 times for any new production literbike (inline 4...)?
I don't see how you think Ferrari has a weak commitment to its road-cars...if you said that about ten to fifteen years ago I would whole-heartedly agree with you...but Ferrari has a totally different attitude now. If they are grudgingly making roadcars, they are doing a damn good job of it, they have seriously increased their sales since the 360's introduction, and it seems to be a very popular car among owners. I never said it wasn't important, of course it is an important test. Its much better than 0-60 or any braking figures taken alone. However, to call it the ultimate test of a car's all around performance is mistaken. I also am aware of the Ultima's impressive road-holding abilities, in fact I thought that made it even more ironic, considering the Ultima's prowess as a cornering machine that the Ultima boys would call a test without any corners the ultimate test of performance. Wasn't there a certain car designed will Mr. Enzo was still with us that did not show its true potential in racing until 5-6 years after its release? That car was basically a racing car that eked by road regulations, and it still took a while before it became successful in racing. So what's to say this newest Ferrari flagship won't follow a similar course?
In Autocar's 0-100mph-0 test they rode a Suzuki GSXR-1000 to a 10.89sec time. The braking is what killed the time, here's the break down: 0-30mph: 1.12s 0-60mph: 2.64s (!) 0-100mph 5.03s reaction time: 0.23s 100mph-0 5.63s Most of the cars were stopping in under 4.5s, and the best cars were closer to 4s...so with more tire or maybe an air brake it could definitely break the 10s barrier. Basically the only reason the cars are still in touch with the bikes is because of braking.
