    Hi,

    i'd like to get some questions about the "348 crap box" like its called answered. I see many thread about the gearbox issues but nothing where i can find all the informations about it. Because in the near feature i like to setup the engines ecu i need some informations about the gearbox so i'd thought to start a thread about the gearbox here.

    My questions :

    1. The main problem and cause of gearbox failure are the locknuts and bearings inside of the gearbox. They maybe become loose and the bearings gets to much play and break into pieces. Or the bearings itself break and cause damage to the gearbox. For this problems you have to assure that the locknuts are torqued down and are staked that they won't come loose. Also there are new better bearings available for the gearbox right? How did i recognize if the bearing is a old or new one. Here in germany a mechanic looked at my gearbox saw that there are new gaskets on the side covers and told me they where overhauld and fine. It has 120.000km till now.

    2. The stock flywheel gets leaky i changed to a 184mm twin plate sinter clutch from tilton and a solid flywheel are there any problems due to the solid flywheel known? Like broken maininputshafts or broken hollow clutchshafts that i need to worry to drive without the 2 mass flywheel. Without torsion damping clutch plates?

    3. Did anyone managed to break the mainshaft wich goes from the crank through the gearbox to the flywheel? If so on what setup how much torque / hp ?

    4. Did anyone ever damaged the gears itself because of too much torque that they loose all their teeth? Wich gears are the weekest in wich gears should i better limit the torque? Did anyone got the thickness of each gears teeth? Normaly the second gear f.e. is the weekest.

    5. What type of LSD is inside the gearbox ? Torson? Or Visco? Is there a problem with that differential on longer wheel spins if its a visco f.e. overheating the visco fluid and locking up the hole thing?

    6. Are the driveshafts strong enough or did they break anyone ever break a driveshaft?

    7. I saw in one thread that the hollow shaft where the clutch sits on gets damaged , the spline was damaged. What caused this is it common? It was a loose nut or something i understand in the thread is it common? Also i sometimes hear that this hollow shaft is week and will break very fast on even only a bit more torque then stock wich scares me a bit.

    8. How do i setup the shifting linkage on the gearbox? I don't find informations about that process in the workshop manual. Because i only get gear 3 in the others are missing from what i hear and feel.
