All good arguments and enough numbers to keep the casual observer busy for some time to come if you can sort through it all. I am sure that for some it has been instructional, and for others entertaining and by the number of people viewing (over 4,000 and growing) it has to be one of the most succesful. It all happened by stubbling across that acetone site and reporting on it.
Whether you are or are not a believer makes no difference. I think that all of us involved in this thread hope that you got something out it and at the very least stimulated thought.
As you venture into this interesting subject rest assured that you will find results will vary from vehical to vehical and that conclusions cannot be drawn by one test or the observation of an individual. I wonder how many people are quietly experimenting and using acetone and seeing results but are afraid to chime in because of the volitile nature of this thread? Pardon the pun!
Acetone lurkers join us in the fun, the flaming doesn't hurt that much we all would like to hear from you.
"You can always tell the pioneers, there the ones with the arrows in their backs". See ya soon!
Oh! I almost forgot to tell you. I ran across this site where the use of magnets on your fuel line polarizes the molecules and increases gas milage.

Hey guys, I ran across this ad in a comic book that sells X-Ray glasses. These would be great for driving at night or in the rain.

Or better yet try 100% pure Snake Oil. It will increase your horse power. But it has to be pure snake oil. It only takes one drop for a full tank.

    Ernie,
Don't get mad at Gary for what he is saying. You have been on this site long enough, and helped enough of us out, that 99.5% of the people viewing this thread understand your results. Gary wants to believe Acetone is the answer to a dwindling oil supply. That's fine with me. I believe the numbers that were a substantial improvement in mileage all had the common element of slower dirving. It seems like having a vehicle with a real time mileage monitor (none of mine have it) would be easy to tell if the mileage is really improved. A person could use the non acetone on a level stretch of road at midday (maybe with mild wind) and do both directions for an average at say 50 mph. Then after a couple tanks with acetone added do the same test. Any milage variance should be readily available. I think I read that the gov't requires that all engines perform (mpg wise) within a 3% range no matter what grade of fuel is being added (87 or 93 octane for example). I would think that this would also cause the acetone added fuel to remain with in the 3% range as the car's computer would require that amount of fuel. Anyway, I like the spirited discussion, but believe me when I say I think your results are straightforward and honest.

    Your a funny guy Mark.

Just for kicks I looked at the sites.

At $102 for a case of their EXP4 fuel additive, and $125 for a case of the oil additive, uh ............ I don't think so. That comes to about $10 for one bottle of each. Then they recomend you use both the oil and gas treatment, that's $20. Not to mention $10 on top of what you paided to fill up the tank, every time you fill up. Sorry but that is way more money than it's worth for any claimed "improvement" in gas milage.

What it sounds like the EXP4 is doing is decreasing the friction in the engine, IF it is doing anything at all.

Less friction will get you more power, and better fuel economy. Heck, I can do that easy just by switching to Royal Purple. I say Royal Purple because I saw a tuner show were they tested it on a dyno. They did one pull on the dyno with the regular oil in the engine, trans, and differential. Then they drained and replaced everything with Royal Purple. Ran it on the dyno again and gained something like 4-6 hp. Nothing spectactular, but to me that is credible proof of the claims. But then again maybe you can get the same results with Mobile 1 lubricants. The question is how long will you get the improvement. Will in start to go back to what it was over time as the viscosity breaks down.

This test I did of the acetone has really turned me into a big time skeptic.

The easiest proven way to improve your gas milage is to just SLOW DOWN, and use the cruse control. Best part about that is, it's FREE!

Oh come-on….we can’t change the test now, how would we compare the data? And whop want to slow down? - that's no fun :)

How about just the oil additive in the engine and trans? I’m sure we can take up a collection and send you a bottle of each. Should I order Std or Auto trans additive?

Hey guys, you can say what you want, but I've been running it in my Navigator for months now. I continue to get 14-14.2 MPG. thats up from 12.4 before the acetone. It has been working for me, what else can I say. I see the difference in my fuel bill every month.

Darrel, I am so happy to see that you found the truth, and I am glad that you decided to report on it.
I have a little real life observation. I was working on a friends low milage 512BBI, and he was complaining about the idle not functioning properly. He would come up to a stop sign and it would die all the time, it was very embarassing for him and he was perplexed as the idle was in the normal range.
Without telling him I added 3 ounces/ten gallons and like magic fixed the problem. I told him after the fact and pointed him to a couple of acetone links and now he is a believer. It flat works and for more than just milage. If I did not experiance any milage gains I would still use it as it makes all my vehicals run better and smoother including my turbo diesal pick-up at the rate of 2 ounces/ten gallons. it works so good I use it in everything I own including atv's and leaf blowers. I have no desire to argue the point with those who will not see the light but I will continue to tell anyone who will listen of my experiances.

I still say it's snake oil, and NO ONE has posted any numbers from their own tests to prove me wrong yet.

Don't just say it does or doesn't work. Prove it like I did, either way. Put up the numbers.

    I don't buy it.

I'll bet it has more to do with your using the cruse control. I can get my Expedition to get 20mpg. It's easy, no mixxing, no measuring, no additives, and it's FREE. Just slow down, drive 55mph, use the cruse control, and you'll see an improvement in your gas milage.

I still say it's snake oil.

Gary, I have actually stopped using race fuel in my off road bikes. Used to run 1/2 and 1/2 91 octane and 112 unleaded because of detonation. Now I just run 3oz/ 10 gal . No need to buy $6 a gallon fuel anymore. Same goes for my off road car, I'm running a 325 HP shortstar and it fantastic with the acetone.

Ernie, I'm not really sure why you need to attack me every time I submit a post that disagrees with what you think.
    For the racord.
    1) I don't use cruise control very often, I do live in Sourthern California which isn't very condusive to cruise.
    2) For the previous 2 years or so my Navigator would routine.ly get 12.2-12.6 depending on the type of driving. After a number of tanks with acetone, it is routinely over 14 mpg. This has been for a few months now.

If you don't believe it... fine. I'm not trying to prove anything to YOU. I simply did an experiment to see if it would work for ME and it does. PERIOD.
    PS I don't drive 55, and I havn't changed my driving habits.

    Darrel and Gary,

Why haven't you posted the numbers on here for everyone to see? If it works as you say, do as I did and post the before and after numbers. But just because you say "it works for me" doesn't mean squat. I can back my words up with cold hard facts. All either of you have done is say "because I say it does".

Darrel, you say you "were" getting 12.2-12.6 mpg before, but nothing to prove you were, or weren't. Now you say you're getting 14 mpg, again with no proof you are, or aren't. Just because you say it works does not prove anything.

Gary the same goes for you. You talk a big game and still haven't put up jack squat.

All the numbers I posted clearly show it does not work. Neither of you have any numbers posted showing it does, nothing. All you have is an opinion. It's is an opinion because you cannot prove what you say.

I proved it did not work, making what I say now, a fact.

    Snake Oil!

Gary - All it takes to have an objective scientific discussion is facts and numbers and a willingness to have your results scrutinized. Check your ego and opinions at the door. Scrutiny is not a challenge to your ego, it IS the scientific method. If you can't deal with that, find another interest. You're too fast with the personal snipes, but too slow with numbers.

P.S. You'll notice that the lotusing's posts about Toluene were generally supported by the technical crowd, contrary to your very negative interjections anticipating the opposite. Perhaps because there IS a rational basis for his observations on Toluene in comparison yours on Acetone?

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96127

Darrel - I recall your data from previous posts. I think I suggested then to stop using Acetone for several tanks and measure the results. Also have you considered a "blind" experiment (e.g., your wife's car without her knowledge?).

    Oh, crap, not more Einstein.
