Steve, this is very old and much debate as to whether it is real or whatever, but I liked it until someone pointed out that it isn't going as fast as it looks. Legend has it the guy was jailed for the clip but it is suppose to be a 275GTB with camera strapped to the bumper bar as he races from one side of Paris to the other at the break of dawn. Also, this is just a normal rat run in the western suburbs of Sydney so what's the big deal ?? why don't you do one of a rat run from one side of Hobart to the other ? should be able to record it on a mobile phone camera they do a 30sec recording don't they ?
Yes John, it is a bit hard to believe that it is genuine and anyone (particularly a supposed F1 driver) would do that. Talking about rat runs in the western suburbs, many moons ago a mate, 2 chicks and myself drove from Lakemba (pre mosque days) to Bundeena for a NY eve party in 35 minutes and managed to finish a bottle of tequila on the way! How we ever survived those days is beyond me. Glad we've grown up a bit.....well just a little bit PS Baskerville, the race track here has been closed for some repairs and is open again from today. Heading out there later to have a play
The guy who conceived the idea was a fiml maker, who wanted to have a go with some new filming technology (the camera used in the run) that only had ten minutes film in it or something. He used his Ferrari 275GTB and got a formula one driver to drive, apparently...
A Dutch magazine "page 13 of the dutch car magazine AUTOVISIE 18 december 2003" did an article and it is actually a Reno Alpine that did the run and the engine note was recorded ontop later. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1320&page=2&highlight=Rendezvous this thread explains it best.
Thanks, interesting reading. Hard to know who to believe these days. Then again, I suppose they call it artistic licence
yeah, can't remember where i said it (like i'm gonna look through 4,300 posts of useless crap!) but i didn't go for the hype, sure it would have looked good 73 years ago at a preview when you took your main squeeze to a talkie, but the sound didn't match the vision at all. i would have rathered a silent piece or against music, as with the obviously wrong sound it just ruined an otherwise great little film.
