I really love the look of the Ulysse Nardin watches. Thinking of maybe getting a Hammerhead watch as my 1st one.

Whats the word on Ulysse Nardin values down the road ?

    Thanks

I love UN too, I have 3 of their watches myself, including an earlier variant of the one you're thinking about.

I haven't ever checked seriously into their resale, as I keep my watches forever, but they are not up in the Rolex or Patek category as far as resale. But many other quality brands can be weak at resale too. My perception is that an excellent to like-new UN watch might sell for 40-55%, dropping from that if the condition degrades. As an example I was offered a like-new Sonata for about 55% of list from an authorized dealer, I'm pretty sure I could have gotten it for 50%, so I figure he must have taken it in at about 40% of list. This was in 2009 though, when luxury items were weak in general.

The problem with UN is that they're not well known in the US and they've gotten into the habit of introducing annual variants of their core models, which it seems is only following what all the other watch companies now do. Both contribute to weaker resale value IMO.

I'm curious if the strengthening Swiss Franc will help to support the used market in the next few years as new Swiss watches go up even more.

I do not know what the resale value is but I do know that they are excellent watches and one of the best time keepers I have come across.

I had a titanium and rose gold marine diver that was new. I was offering it 55% off of retail and it sat for a long time.
They are great watches but look for a deal. They can be bought right.

If I were ever to win the watch lottery, I'd like it to include a UN Freak. Coolest watch ever.

I own this one and love it (just wore it today in fact). The resale does suck though. It was my first nice watch purchase and I got it for 30% off but knowing what I know now, I would look for a much bigger discount. Having said that, it is an awesome watch, extremely well built, very high quality, and pretty unique. I've only seen one other UN in the wild. And I second what someone said about keeping time - mine keeps amazing time. Much better than my AP. It'll go a month on the winder and still be dead on. Buy it right and you'll love it.
