I was at a hotel last night at a fund-raiser event, and a couple of us drove our Ferraris and Maseratis down. My friend had his F430 spider parked out in front, and we were all standing around chatting waiting for the valet guys to fetch the cars....
Well, I heard the familiar sound of the F430 being rev'd up ... and then some more ... and then waaaaaaaaaaa'a''aa''a'aaaaaa as its bouncing off the rev-limiter. I look over and I see my friend having a bit of an argument with a guy. Apparently he'd jumped in, started the car, and was enjoying hearing the Italian music. (Is it completely redundant to point out "alcohol might have been involved?"). Just a little bit of pushing was involved in the contretemps and a couple of us had to restrain the owner of the dealership (who was also there) from going over there and "letting him know what he thought of his actions".
    Unbelievable! The gall!
What was it that the Joker said in Batman ? "Never rub another man's rhubarb" ? I'm sure glad that he didn't do it to my car since right about now I'd be in a place not-known for internet access and hygenic facilities.....

Well, never leave your keys to a valet. I never do. I make it a point to park my F430 on my own, wherever I go. You never know what a valet can do to your car when you are not looking. He might even take her for a spin around the block. It's not that everyday valets are given an opportunity to drive such a car and they do take chances.

It wasn't a valet -- it was a guest at the hotel...

and while there'e a chance there'll be that "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" escapade, I've never had a problem with leaving the car (and keys) with a valet in 10 years....

Some stranger came by, started the car and was playing in it?

    That's pretty incredible!

    Keys were left in it??

Lucky he didn't figure out the F1 and take a test drive!

    It's a 6speed ;-)

...and yes the keys were left in it ...owner was only 20 feet away or so. Owner thought it was the owner of the dealership, owner of the dealership thought it was the car-owner messing about -- both of course were wrong, and then it was "WTF are you ??" ;-)

Some people have no respect. How the **** are you going to get into a $200k+ car and start revving it up without permission or even knowing who owns the car.

what is it with some people concerning exotics that feel the cars are there for their enjoyment even though they don't own them?

I have seen this before where people will just walk up to one and start messing with it such as tapping on body panels to see if they are glass or metal or other similar things with no concern whatsoever.

I was at a car show a couple years back, and a father opened the door of a 246 and let his 5 year old play inside the car!! I suggested he should ask his son to get out and I thought he was going to punch me. BTW, it definitely was NOT his car.

If you do a search here on "valet" you will read some stories worse than this.
As Rival said its what you don't know that should concern you.

The last time (decades ago) that I left a car with valet parking, they confused my Alfa with another one. The other owner pulled to the edge of the parking lot to leave, reached over to turn on the radio, then went back to the valet and told him, "Somebody took my radio ... and replaced it with a much nicer one." ;)

Friend of mine was in Bahrain last year and saw a child slide down the bonnet (hood) of a 360 from the windscreen going "weeeee"...mother was on scene, she picked the kid up, placed him back at the base of the screen so he could go "weeee" again, and again etc...unbelievable.

That's pretty rude on the part of a passer by/guest...

OTOH, I have this bad habbit of leaving my keys in the car when I go to the golf course (private club).

Anyway, a few years back one night some guys I knew came stumbling out of the club bar and were looking at my 66 corvette. My wife & I were actually close by but we (obviously) couldn't be seen. One of the guys gets in the car and starts it up. Freaked out the other guys obviously and was pretty funny to watch, but the moral of the story is that if people don't think the owner is around...it's fair game.

Does it not seem rather odd that Harleys never (okay, not very often) get messed with? I think everyone knows Harley guys will hurt you, so whats that say about F car owners? :)
