    Hello everyone,

I just picked up a 1987 Testarossa in Monterey last week. When I was a kid I had the poster of a Testarossa right next to the poster of a Countach so after liking the last couple years I finally found the one for me.

My expectations were pretty low of the driving experience. I was so shocked at how fun the car is to drive. I have been told that the car is a slug and nothing special to drive but I found my experience to be the exact opposite. For what is the car is it’s plenty fast and quite comfortable for a man of my size. I am 6’3”. One thing that did surprise me very much is how quiet the car is. I would expect the V 12 to scream like we all know if Ferrari does. So now like others it’s time for me to get an exhaust system. I’ve watched videos of all the most recommended systems such as Capristo and Tubi but one thing that I can’t seem to find is an exhaust that brings the V12 alive at higher RPM’’s but also has the pops and gargles of the backflow when off the gas.

I read through the various threads about different exhaust systems that people have installed and their experiences and recommendations of them.

I know most people want the real high-pitched scream of the few 12 but I also think a deeper know what sounds very nice and appropriate if it had the backflow to go with it..

Would anyone be able to recommend an exhaust company or set up that could accomplish this goal? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Congrats on the acquisition.

    Precisely.

You can find most exhaust sounds on youtube. The Kreissieg sounds more F1.

Congrats on the Testarossa! The car feels like a go kart. I still love it.

Any exhaust work will transform the car. I have a Kreissieg. It is high pitched, two faced (remote valves), pricey and takes a while to make.

My close second was a Capristo. They sound amazing. They are half the cost with the same build quality.

If you need more sound I have pre cat delete pipes for sale. They lower the under hood temps and give any exhaust a +1 sound.

Jeff, I may be interested in the pre-cat delete pipes. Who is the manufacturer, and what is their condition? Thanks, EDoug

I need to elaborate. The raw sound comes from systems that have less or no crossover. For systems with less focus on crossover you can look at Larini or Quicksilver systems. These sound far more raw than Capristo or Kreissieg.

Hi Daniel, I got my TR earlier this month and looking for an exhaust as well. Maybe we can leverage a group purchase. Do you have a brand your leaning towards? I'm leaning towards Capristo.

I have both a Tubi and a Capristo Stage 3. Capristo is louder in both lower and higher RPM, slightly faster top end. Tubi is more civilized with better backpressure/low end torque. Currently running the Capristo. Likely will swap over next major back to Tubi.

I’ve diy built a number ss exhausts (cat bypasses, cross overs, exhaust tips, glass packs etc) mainly for Porsches but I’ve done exhaust work on all my cars and trucks. Lots of work and you end up (having) to like them as you’ve invested so much time and energy (or cost if buying off the self). I’ve come to the conclusion, at least for me, that modifying stock exhaust is the most cost effective and least labour intensive (although you don’t loose the weight). This is what I went with for my car.

Congratulations on the new car! I hope you are loving it as much as I love mine. I like the deep sound of the Quicksilver exhaust but it kind of goes away from what makes Ferrari so great which is the scream of the V12 engine. Seems like a lot of people like Capristo and Tubi. A buddy of mine who is a large exotic car broker says he is going to make a connection for me with an executive over at Tubi when he gets back from his vacation next week. If you want I can ask him what price can he give me if we get 2 systems. Since you are in California I assume you will be keeping catalytic converters correct? Mine is currently registered in Montana so not a worry at the moment. I might purchase some cat delete pipes to make it even louder.

That Fuchs system sounds amazing!! and has the pops and backfire I am looking for. Do you think adding cat delete pipes will help get a few of those pops?

Thank you for your response. Does your Capristo have valve system? Do you have a cat delete or a cat back system? I'm wondering how cat delete pipes with a Tubi exhaust will sound.

My setup is OEM headers > tubi pre-cat deletes > OEM cats > capristo S3 (Stage 3 is not valved); I only bought the capristo as videos don't properly capture sound in person/in cabin IMHO (and thus wanted to try it out and see what it sounded like)

I should also stress: No gas smell. No hint of drone w the tubi cat back w the above setup. No frank drone either w the capristo (its just LOUD while the tubi is relatively sedate of throttle). Realize I despite drone so that was very important to me.

The capristo is definitely lighter than the tubi but I did not weigh them formerly (I should some day...tubi is just in storage now).

I toyed w the idea of hyperflow or cat deletes but now would definitely not remove the primary cats as any more free flowing and you would loose far too much low end torque.

To add, in theory w the pre-cats deleted you primary cats will likely wear out faster depending on your gas quality/how rich your car runs.

@Aerosurfer drove the car w current setup and can comment on sound too. Its loud but balanced...I mean it is a V12.

Hey Daniel, my TR will be registered in Montana. I purchased the Capristo freeflow Sound 3 and cat deletes from Mike at @Yellow Compass . He's also a sponsor for this forum. He gave me a great deal on both and is a super guy to talk to and a wealth of knowledge. Reach out to him and 973-610-7111

So essentially, my TR will retain the precats but all Capristo afterwards. Its in the shop getting the major, clutch and the exhaust installed and cant wait to get it back. We can chat after.

I'm really excited for you! Please be sure to post a video or shoot me a message with all the details and what your thoughts are when you get it back. Where in California are you having your car serviced? I currently live in Las Vegas but originally from the Bay Area.

Damian at FMS Socal is performing the engine out, clutch and installing my exhaust. He was referred too to me by Mike from Yellow Compass. After speaking with him, he has a lot of experience with these cars and great reputation. His shop is awesome and cars in his stalls are incredible . Timing was great since the work will be completed while I'm on vacation. I'll try to post a video when I get back.
