My 308 QV just started clicking like a tick-tock sound once every 5 sec. The sound feels and sounds like it's coming from the small "relay looking" box just to the left of the steering column (see picture). It's right by the seatbelt-door buzzer.
What is it and why would it just start doing that? I've had the car for 3 years and do not recall hearing this even once. I have not done, installed or replaced anything to the car in months. I began hearing it immediately upon starting it today and all during a 160 mile drive to Mt. Wilson and back with no (other) problems. My turn signals work fine and the car ran awesome!!
    Any insight would be appreciated.
    BTW:
I did wash my car this morning before the drive.
The last major thing I did was a headlight upgrade to Xenon's about 11 months ago. But I've put 900+ miles on it since with no problems.
I guess I'll also consult my wire diagram.

    Thanks,
    Bob R.

So far I've not found a picture of this item in my 308 QV parts manual CD.

    Bob,

I even checked my parts catalog (1976). No relay there. Just the instrument panel harness shown.

Your QV has an interior light dimmer device, but I think it's mounted in the passenger footwell. Could it be a relay for your rear fog lights?

Could be the GPS your wife had installed to track you , LOL.

Try to unplug it and see what does not work.

There was one thing I forgot to recall and to list. I removed my wiper arms a few weeks ago since I do not drive my car in the rain and to save the blades.

I must have hit the wiper stalk (down) early this morning while cleaning the inside of the windshield. The clicking was the wiper system cycling the linkage and that box must be the relay control. With the arms off I did not notice the shafts outside rotating.........LOLOLOL!!!

i have not been in Kalifornia in years, but i think they will ticket you for no wipers installed, and may look even deeper at the car, since its a Ferrari !

You don't have to have them on, you just have to have them with the car and you are fine in CA... I've always kept the wipers for my "special" cars in the trunk - where ever that might be.
