I am in the process of cleaning up my Testarossa and I am looking at a thin coating of undercoating on the front and rear wheelwells, any idea on the least invasive process for removing it from the inner wells? Thinners, reducers?
    Thanks in advance

If you are talking about the brown Dinol/waxol rust preventative spray I have found turpentine is the best for removing it without damaging anything else. If you mean the black underbody textured spray I found paint stripper softens it and then a plastic scraper helps peel it away. Best to take the additional time and pull all the panels that can be removed out of the car. Good luck..

That Dinitrol stuff is my nemesis, I have nightmares about it having spent long hours removing masses of it from my 328. It was just everywhere. The worst thing about it was that it had kind of bubbled and looked like the metal underneath was rusting, which it was definitely not.
Agree with above, turpentine. I found the best method was daub it on with a brush, wait 30 mins, go over the area with a wire brush, daub on some more, wait another 30 mins, wash at all off with wipes soaked in more turpentine. Very messy and nasty.

Easyrider7467 described his procedure here - Refurbishment of Wheel Wells - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256859
    "
    1. Removed wells.
    2. Remove rubber moulding, clean and hydrate with Wurths rubber care.
    3. Remove all the Dinol with mineral spirits, heavy duty scotch brite, rinse clean.
    4. On aluminum lower well; Feather-out the edges with sand paper caused by rock chips
    5. Scrub the outer shell of the wheel well and then wet sand the outer portion of the well leaving it smooth and clean. That which is visible from inside engine bay.
    6. clean screws, washers and bolts, spray with a textured black.

    7. Use Wurths Stone Guard, 2 light coats on inner wells.
    8. touch up lower rocker panel in front and behind tire.
    9. Install wheel wells and tire
    10. Rechromed lug bolts

While the Wheel well was out I cleaned up the shock and others various parts.

I'm cleaning that crap off of my 308 QV right now also. It seems to have a sort of copper metal flake in it as I have been washing it off of removed parts in the parts washer. A-arms, shocks and springs, steering rack, fender liners, HVAC piping, that crap is everywhere and randomply applied. Off to the store first thing in the morning for terpentine! Good timing for me on this thread.

I've found Brake Cleaner will melt it right off. No wiping, no scrubbing it just dissolves (if we're talking about the same stuff)!

Thanks Paul308 for posting my process.

Mouser57, I have never used the terpentine approach. I will tell you that it is a "process" and as said before "messy". I applied the MS scrubbed with scotchbrite, repeat as often as needed...
    Good Luck, post pics too.

    John.

I think mineral spirit is the same as turpentine isnt it? Or similar.

I tried brake cleaner also. It didnt work. It softened the surface then evaporated leaving the stuff even harder than originally! So I think Darolls must have different stuff.
