Greetings, Does anyone on the board know of a good undercoating product that replicates the factory look and cures hard? The various *rubberized* undercoatings from Eastwood Co. ect. I've used in the past work fine but they always seem to stay a bit tacky and appear to be a much darker (black in color) as compared to the original factory undercoating. Perhaps it is just a function of time and in 20 years or so the contrast between the freshly undercoated sections and the original factory undercoating won't be as noticeable? All thoughts, opinions and advice are very welcome. Example photo: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually, the "correct factory undercoating" from Ferrari is a proprietary blend of oil, grease, coolant, and brake fluid!!! Seriously, ditto on the Body Shutz --- it's kind of spendy, but is great stuff --- though it's not OEM, it is better. Timo04, I don't mean to invade your privacy, but I'm curious ---- what is the black car in the background, looks like maybe an Aston Martin?
I was wondering about this as well, since I had laid one underbody panel on the floor and parts of it came off or dissolved in some tranny fluid. Someone told me that they had obtained good results with a spray on truck bed liner, but I have never seen it.
On my Daytona I used a Wurth undercoating product. It looked exactly like the undercoating currently on the car (not sure if original, but I suspect so). Product is Wurth High Build Underbody Underseal, P/N W-8909071. $12.50 for a 19.5 oz can from Superiorcarcare.net.
Not a problem, these are not my cars and I was just using the photo as an example. The undercarriage photo is of a Lancia Fulvia coupe for sure. I also believe the car in the back ground to be a BMW 850i, the wheel seems to be a pretty good clue. Not certain about this as I was not present when the pic was taken. I have heard of this 3M Body Shutz I will look into this. Wurth products are always top notch IMHO. I've used their protective spray coating (like "brown wax" or "waxoyl") to coat inner box sections to help guard against rust. Thanks so much everyone! Tim
