Notice this part as part of the undertray for M5.2 355's
    But not for M2.7's

What does this "acoustic screen" actually do?

Not part of any 355 that I ever worked on.

Early cars also had an insulated shield (163757) that covered the clutch assembly. Only saw it once and removed it for the owner. A much better look without it and easier to detect leaks in the vicinity.

It isn't noted in the parts book I have but I have seen it on some gray market car. Due to the name I suspect some nature of sound deadening, possibly for the Swiss. They are very strict about noise levels.

Think you'll find all 355's had the clutch heat shield...protects from exhaust silencer heat.
Mine gets well burnt...riveted on heat material to help.

The acoustic screen is fitted to all 5.2 cars.

Looks like you are missing the rear most undertray as well as the acoustic screen.

US cars do not have the clutch heat shield or the acoustic screen.

All is a word that does not apply to Ferrari.

According to all part books i've seen these parts were fitted as standard to all 5.2 cars regardless of territory.

Well I guess you are right and Ferrari and everyone who knows 355's in the US is wrong.

After all we know the books are perfect.

    Ok

    Just sorting thru your sarcasm.
    I got it now.

    The books do have errors.
And some part numbers aren't correct.

Strange though how US cars omitted the clutch cover.

I agree but for some reason they did. Only the Challenge cars came with them here.
