I am a 5 month 360 Spider owner and am loving every minute of it. In the interest of getting to know my car a bit better, I am undertaking a project tomorrow about a problem I have been having.

I am noticing after I do a car wash, the floor in the luggage compartment is a bit damp. I will typically leave the hood up to let it dry out, but figured something is causing this. After a brief investigation, I noticed the two drain holes by the wipers and the channels that lead down to the lower drain hole.

    My steps are:

    1) Check all drain holes to make sure no clogs exist.
    2) Remove all luggage compartment panels to check for any standing moisture, water, or mold.
    3) Then check molding around the trim to make sure it is in good shape.

My questions to the population are:

    1) Has anyone else encountered this problem?
    2) Is there anything else that might be causing water to get into the luggage compartment?
    3) There is a moisture barrier behind the back panel and I understand the A/C piping is back there, but I never use the A/C. Could something back there be causing this?

    Any thoughts would be helpful.

    Thanks!

When I got my car it had evidence of water in the trunk.
Tested the trunk, spraying strongly, no water.
Pulled firewall panel, and no water membrane was there.....

Since the car was a Washington car, driven in rain, I think driving
spray came through this area. Ordered the membrane from Ricambi,
It is only a real thin and flimsy foam membrane seal, but it helps.

No water in my trunk since. Yes we have underbody panels, but water
can still spray up inside that area, especially in large puddles.

This is probably no the OP issue, since it happens when car is washed,
just another area to check since we are talking about water in the trunk.

    Awesome guys!! Thanks.

Still going to take the panels out though, just to make sure no mold or mildew.

Great point! I noticed my membrane has some rips in it that were re-taped with painters tape. I haven't driven it in the rain yet, but when I clean the wheels I use a strong spray and that could be it. I will be replacing the membrane when I have the new stereo installed.

It is not a lot of water, just moisture.

    Thanks for all the feedback!!

That stupid vapor barrier in the front should really have access to at least bleed the master cylinder.

    Hey Deiger:

So how did this work out for you. I just noticed the same problem tonight. I opened my hood and there was condensation dripping onto everything. My car cover (which I keep in the car) was wet and smelled like a gym bag...and my books and tool kit were moldy. I cleaned everything up nicely (the books have some staining but not bad) but I want to find out what the problem is. The car sat outside for a couple of days in the rain while I did some wiring in my garage (I know)...so I suspect that is when it got wet. And I assume that when water gets in there and the hood stays closed, it never dries. So did cleaning out the drain holes help?

You need to replace both fuel pumps, all rollover valves, any ECU's you run across, Tires, your cam belts and tensioners, water pump, all oils and anti-freeze.. and then it's safe to drive.. :D

When my indie mechanic removed the panel to bleed the master cylinder there was no membrane and no indication that one was ever fitted. As mine is an early 360 (1999 model) I guess Ferrari added this to later models after finding out that road spray was getting in.

My 99 never had one either.

Check the drainage from the panel below the windshield and the weather stripping on it. Ensure it drains. Holes in this panel go to the wheel wells.

This was the issue. Drainage holes were fine, no clog. In the end the entire windshield cowl had to be resealed inside and out. They used a very sticky, strip type of silicone (black in color). I have not had an issue since.

As a recommendation, go to Lowes or Home depot and get those packages that remove moisture and put one in the front bonnet after you get the issue fixed. It will help remove all moisture, even after you clean up any water residue.

    Good luck!!
