Many years ago (1986) when I was a child, I left Italy to go to America. About 5 years later, a childhood friend of mine started to work at Maranello and sent me a gift of a piston and valve. He said it was out of a F50 but that’s all I know. I have since misplaced the valve (likely in a tool box somewhere in my garage) but have the piston and was wondering the collectible value?

I apprenticed at a Ferrari dealer but it has been too long since I had to decode a Ferrari part number. Can anyone confirm that it is out a F50? If so, I assume the “1985” inside the piston is not indicative of the date of manufacture, which also makes sense since this is a 5 valve piston.

The 1985 is confusing. That is not a Ferrari part number. It would be 6 digits and start with a 1. It is the correct diameter for an F50 and it is a Mahle piston.

It has been 20 years or so since I had one in my hand. It probably is. I would not say it has any significant monetary value. Its real value is as a gift from an old friend.
