I just noticed a rubber tipped switch directly under the ignition block, next to the gimmicky relay switch for the glove box door. My car is undergoing a year-long cosmetic freshen-up and is apart, so I don't want to connect the battery just to see what it does since some of the wiring is currently bare.

It does not list this switch in the book.

My first thought was that it might extend the wheel knockoffs ala the 007 DB5, or perhaps leave an oil slick behind the car. On second thought, they often do that on their own....

Likely an aftermarket security system. Or, I have seen people put a switch there to manually turn on the cooling fans .

I am pretty sure this is stock, since it appears to go into the actual ignition block and does not look aftermarket.

Can other later year injected Boxer owners look and see if they have the same thing? It might have been one of those items added late in the production run and they never bothered to update the owners book. I agree with Frank that it might be some kind of security device. If it is not stock, I will have that part of the dashboard recovered to hide the hole.

    Thanks
