Question for the Cell Phone Gurus... The Motorola W220 appears to be the perfect phone for my needs. I'm with Alltel and Moto said it'll work with them. Alltel says that they cannot guarantee service (missed calls and messages) because it's not an "Alltel" phone. My current Motorola E815 has a dead display (3 days after the warranty expired) and I still have 7 months of contract time left. They're offering me a new RAZR at no cost but with another 2 year extension. I'm not too fond of the phone or the extension. Anyone know if the W220 will do the trick until November? Thanks in advance. http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details.jsp?globalObjectId=142 Image Unavailable, Please Login
unlocked phone will work fine. I have used them for a long time and never had an issue. My current BB is an unlocked phone. they say that to stop you from buying other phones Antony
Agreed. I have used unlocked phones for a long time. No problems. Plus it is great not having a contract.
You can always buy a locked phone and unlock it. It's fairly easy with most phones. Motorolas, Nokias, and most euro phones are easy to unlock yourself. Blackberrys require purchasing an unlock code from someone with access to them.
Thanks, looks like that's what I need to do. BTW, will I have to bring the phone to an Alltel store to have it configured or can it be done remotely? The nearest store is over 50 miles away.
If you're going to buy an unlocked phone why not something more solid like a Samsung t-809? GOOD price and like a rock. (stylish as well)
I don't know about Alltel, but I did this with AT&T. My phone stopped working, and I needed something fast. Being cheap, I bought a 9.99 GoPhone, it comes with a $10 Free Airtime card, which I had no use for. Since you have to show them that you are actually using the phone, I called some people after activating it, and then I used the remaining for some internet and games. After that I switched my SIM card from my broken non-working phone, and switched it in my GoPhone. Unfortunately I don't think Alltel is as easy as that, but it might help someone.
Thanks but I don't need the camera, DOD facilities kind of frown on them. Plus I do IT consulting and can't afford to check the phone at the door
Unfortunately, the W220 only comes with GSM technology (SIM cards) and Alltel uses CDMA... Two different worlds.
I just went through exactly what you need to know, i bought a nokia e62 off of ebay for $135 dollars as to opposed to $450 at my provider up here...two weeks later phone shows up so i have it unlocked($100) i could use it fine for phone calls but would only receive 2 out of 10 phone calls text messages would take 11 minutes yes i mean 11 and would freeze my phone the whole time the text was being sent, so after shipping, unlocking etc i had a $250 phone that wouldn't work because of different software then my provider, and the final kick in the teeth was i searched craigslist in my town and found about 50 people selling the e62 from my provider!
