Part # 104973 Synchro Hub (Manicottodi comando) TAV 21 part #9 Looked far and wide for these. Need two for my upcoming gearbox rebuild, none to be found anywhere. I've checked all the regular sources, and wondered if anyone here knew of any "irregular" sources. Thanks, Dave M Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
PARTS FOUND!!! Thanks to the ANON PM. and my lightening quick VISA card. PHEW, THAT WAS CLOSE. Gearbox rebuild without these would have been a less than perfect repair. DM
Pardon my quizzical response. Someone sent you an "ANON PM" in answer to your search, and you parted with your VISA information, and the pieces are now supposed to be on their way to you? I hope there is more to the story than that. Did Mr. Anon actually have the parts, or did he put you in touch with someone else? I HOPE your bits are on their way, and that they are as described.
I got a PM from a source who wishes to remain anonamous. The parts were from a reputable retail Ferrari establishment. I may be dumb enough to own an old Ferrari, but I'm not STOOPID!!!
Yup, that rules out just about all of us Fchat shucksters. EDIT: Mrs. JRR says that I should specifically note that I was being sarcastic... not serious!
That's great - in less than 2 hours, unobtanium is not only no longer extinct, but on it's way in X # of days & yet more are in stock from another supplier who has proven to be very, very reputable (and probably cheaper, sorry big spenders). So, about that rebuild... Do Tell!
Tom, thanks for asking. There I was, parked in my driveway, when the detailer backs into the Dino with my Land Rover.....oops, old story. But it does lead to this story. Well, as a result, the Dino is getting a bare metal repaint this fall/winter. While that's being done, the radiator is coming out to get some kind of fancy sonic cleaning, motor doesn't run as cool as it should. While there, the cooling fans will get removed and replaced, one is dead anyway. "WHILE I WAS AT IT", I FIGURED "I MIGHT AS WELL" GET THE TRANNY LOOKED AT. 2nd gear is impossible cold, balky hot, and a treacherous shift to take at speed. Before we destroy 2nd gear, and cause me to have a heart attack, we're going to rebuild the gearbox. All new synchros, hubs, bearings, etc. Hence the search for the parts unobtanium. Probably gonna get the dash pulled out and give it a fresh covering, "While we're at it." We'll be replacing the window motors and cleaning the gear housings on those, too. We may even add an extra can of compression to make sure everything is ok, and for sure we're going to replace the muffler bearings to get rid of that rattle in the back. DM
Don't forget to get some compressed Italian air to put in the tires. I mean, if you're going to go all the way, you might as well go all the way...
DAMMIT. I forgot to check where those cans of compression came from. But, I bought them from Daniel, and he'd never sell me a knock off can of say, Irish or Canadian air, would he???
Upgrade the ignition system and stuff it in an AEC 103A Marelli box so nobody knows. Many Dino owners with perfectly good 2nd gear synchros don't have a problem but they still shift from 1st to 3rd when cold to reduce wear.
No go on the ignition, has a BRAND SPANKIN NEW Dinoplex whcih works great. Not gonna fuss with it. The switch to the Euro distributor helped too. So, no modern stuff for me!!! DM
One of those synchro hubs is only worn on one side (unless it has already been flipped) so you can flip it around and should be brand new unless the selector fork groove is worn (not likely).
Dave, It may be cheaper to just design and build a functional time machine and go back to '72 to buy a new one. Ever thought about that?
I should take advice from a guy who can't go out in the sun???? I have a wayback machine, I just don't use it very often. That's me on the right, you on the left. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login
