I have recently purchased a HW 360 Challenge Stradale, it is missing the stripe, it has a line over the body at the edge of where the stripe would normally go almost as a factory marker line to fit the stripe, and the boot has a piece of the full width strip on it where the high stop light is.

My question is, has anyone else come across this? Is it normal? Should there have been a decal of the stripe in the box to allow me to add the stripe if I liked?

They didn't make one without a stripe... at least not that I've ever seen or heard of. The stripe on mine appears to be nothing more than a sticker/decal... was yours new and sealed in the box? It's possible it was a factory error, if so. If not, it was possibly removed by the previous owner...

Sounds like a factory error, normally they have a warranty in the box.
If you want them to replace it, I would avoid trying to get one right from the factory, they may just send you something of the same value. Try to return it from the place you purchased it, or you could just remove the marks that are on it...

    Post pics of it.

If it is an error, I would keep it.

    This is normal.

My car has a decal, but it's very badly applied. And now the edges are starting to curl up and you can see some kind of outline underneath it.

I would not be to eager to not call it an error though, I have had plenty of 1:18 errors from Hot Wheels. Missing decals, wheels, one the casting was bad and the car body was busted in half.

It was brand new in a sealed box, all looked normal and un-tampered with and i brought it with the thought that it is an error, ill take some photos of it tomorrow and add them here. I like that it is a bit different, not many models around here are unique.

Seems unfortunate that i have already broken the factory seal and added the model to my display case, if i had put some more thought into it i would have left it sealed.

Totally normal. This is what the model looks like if someone peels off the stickers. Since Mattel are not willing enough to make a dissent product like a form conforming decal they print a little white stripe on the edge of the "tail" because they are still smart (and cheap) enough to know that the sticker will lift on that edge.
Whoever sold you the model probably took the stripe off of it for another project or whatever..... Either way it would not make the model more valuable in any way, even if it was accidentally send by Mattel without the sticker, simply because it could be achieved by anyone. If you like it without stripe, then remove the guide line and keep it. If you don't just get rid of it. By the way, beside the nice wheels and tires this model is highly inaccurate in every area you can imagine.

Thanks Michael, I did not think this would make it more valuable, just interesting, the box it came in was sealed with the factory clear stickers at each end and the model still had the straps to hold everything shut, I would be amazed if someone would go to the trouble of restoring the factory seals and straps after removing the sticker, just can't see why anyone would do that, especially a hobby shop. :)
As far as the detail is concerned, it’s not an expensive model, so I understand they cut corners when they made it, I will add a quality CS to my collection once I find one, that one will have the stripe. Hopefully they can get the front bumper and side skirts amongst other things correct, do you know of a production model that is ok in its detail? :)

NO, there isn't one done right, yet. By the way, aside from the grilles the front bumper is pretty good.

Are the stickers applied by hand or machine.

If they're applied by machine it looks like it may have messed up or ran out of sticker.
