I purchased this car in the UK last year from its owner of some 32 years. Had been repainted in its original colour and may I suggest it is a far superior choice than red.

My first choice would never be red unless on a 1989 328, I think unusal colors really highlight the cars lines. the first Ferraris I ever fell in love with were blue sera/chiaro 308 and fly yellow daytona and silver with red leather dino . But it appears to be a euro spec car did you change to the side amber lights? the car looks great!

i'd assume the name was took from dino car... when 206gt was brought about many new "lifestyle" colours were introduced, like dino rosso, blu dino, verde germoglio so i think that viola too. it'd make sense some daytonas were sprayed the same as both cars were produced in the same time

Some guys weren't even born in the late 60s and early 70s. These colors were TYPICAL of the period (ever heard of flower power, Woodstock and the 68 generation?). Viola is so typical of that time. There is an excellent (German) word for this: "Zeitgeist".
BTW: Of all the 365 GTB/4 Berlinettas built, seven (7) were originally painted Viola and three (3) were originally painted Verde Germoglio.

Wow, I agree. What is with white and Ferrari ? The absolute worst thing i have ever seen is the 365GTC4 in white used by Ferrari in the publicity photos. Also i believe that this was the car use to introduce the model in Geneva. The C4 in White looks like a Dodge Charger gone wrong.

Up until 1970, the 365 GTB/4 was fitted with lights in a fixed position behind the plexi glass nose band.
American regulations dictated a new minimum ride height for lights so pop up versions replaced the fixed units

The US government dictated that the headlights had to be a certain height above the ground. Most cars were re-engineered to meet this requirement, except for the MGB where the masters of the bodge at British Leyland fitted blocks in the suspension mounts to lift the whole body up, not worrying to much about the resulting effect on the handling. And people wonder what happend to the British car industry ! ;)

I am not sure when the height of headlights regulations came into being, but the Daytona lights were modified to pop up in order to comply with an earlier regulaion that headlights should not be behind plexiglass.

The ride height of MGB's was not raised until sometime in the mid 70's.

There was one placed in a thread in the Dutch section last week, as it happens, but the caption on the picture says Verde Profilo. Never heard of that colour, but I already thought it was not Germoglio - compare with the Dino.

Exactly what I was thinking : That's what happens if you order your new Daytona by phone from Woodstock after seeing Joe Cocker.

Been flicking through the various pics, and it's sortof growing on me:)

My two most recent Porsches, a 1972 911S and a 1970 914/6, were viper green and tangerine, respectively. Porsche sort of "owned" these extremely vibrant colors in the early 70s. I agree with Marcel that these colors were reflective (no pun intended) of the times in which the cars were produced. Contrast that with today when most Porsches are black, white or silver, and the Ferrari palette isn't too diverse either. Most people seem to want a "safe" color for resale.

Nice to see this thread revived. I couldn't agree more with the statement above, about Dino Blu. Photos are of S/N16989 in original Dino Blu.

Daytonas look great in virtually any color. Not a lot of cars can pull that off, but I dont know if I have ever seen a Daytona in a color I didnt like.
