Ordered new clutch plates and a pressure plate from eurospares and it arrived to South Africa in about a weeks time due to issues at customs. The guys at eurospares are doing an amazing job. We took her to Lambo and two days later she was all good! I love this car so much and it's just a pleasure driving it. The other day my dad and I went for a ride and we got stuck in traffic and all of a sudden the alternator light came on. The battery is still fully charged and we tightened the alternator belts... Any idea on what the problem may be? New alternator on the cards?

    Thanks

what do you mean under this? new alternator on the cards?

if the belt is ok it is a problem of the alternators regulator perhaps. so you may check the voltage in iddle and also with about 3000 rpm. the voltage has to increase form iddle to this 3000 rpm to minimum 13.8 V, better would be 14,4 V. if not you may take out the alternator, disassemble and check the diodes. if this all is ok you may put in a new regulator. and if this also will not work you need new alternator.

but may be there is only a wire disconnected somewhere?

    Hi
Even if the battery is showing 100% charge it could still be on its way out-I would have it tested before spending any money or investing any time - happy hunting :)

I had the same issue last week with my alternator. As with many other TRs, when I started the car, I would often get a charging light. As the car warmed up and went closed-loop, idle increased just enough to extinguish the light and would not come back on. Alternatively, if I "blipped" the throttle it would also extinguish. Last week the indications changed: light would remain on regardless of throttle, though only 1/2 bright, engine off the light was full bright. I checked the voltage at the battery: engine off was 12.4 vDC, at idle 13.7 vDC, no change above idle. I considered ignoring the lamp as the charging side was OK, but in the end decided to have the alternator rebuilt.

The shop did find issues with the indication side and replaced the "trio" (Delco 10si Trio), which is a key part of operating the charging light. They also replaced the bearings, brushes and voltage regulator. I'll reinstall tomorrow (oh boy!!) but am very optimistic this will solve my problem.

Sounds like you are facing the same problem. Others have successfully ignored this light with no further problems (charge=good, indication=bad) but in the end you'll have to decide how you want to proceed. Removal/installation is a chore but can be done with the engine in the car and little disassembly (I didn't have to remove the air box and plenum as others have).

Good luck, let us know how things work out.
