Friday should be good. Where's breakfast? Does Goth know how to make oatmeal? Is FBB eating (stupid question)?

Actually the install is not a big event and it may even spoil the surprise IMO ............... the forthcoming pics will have all the juicy details you could ever want ;)!!!

Though the time you guys better show for, is the celebratory 'free breakfast at Joes'!!! Courtesy of fatbilybob racing enterprises.... :D!!!

Friday at my house for the installation party? Name the time. I will hold off on the cans upgrade; that was just an aside for next week. The fat man is also invited since I want him to witness the work. As for the breakfast, we do have to prove the gains, so it's off to the dyno on Sat AM and then the fatboy breakfast is...?

Not to be a party pooper....... but if I am taking 'work' off for this, I really want to get all the work done and get it dynoed the same day. If we have breakfast then take a cruise to Vinces..... BS a bit.......turn one screw, then horsearound some more.... then have lunch, then goof off some more, then we "might" by some miracle of god get done in the afternoon........................ then fight traffic to the dyno....... oh wow...... the place is closed now...... well lets all caravan back to Vinces.............. etc. etc. etc........

Anyway the "Party" should be to celebrate success and that should be done at another time........... but not the day when the schedule is tight..... as you guys know we have been trying to get this done for a loooooooong time...... and there is still alot to do........

No party. Only install. It's goth's call. It is kind of a drive to the dyno and we don't want to do it in traffic. Heh, heh, it's like my garage is becoming a skunk works and goth's is the lab... :p

    Okay,

Then let's knock this thing out in the morning. I bet we can swap the plenums in a couple of hours. Heck, if Vince wants to do the exhaust we can do that at the same time. There will be five of us there, so we can split up who does what. Two can knock the exhaust out, while the other three can swap out the intake, or what ever. Just to be sure, you do have new intake gaskets ready to go right? Cummon Oz, you've seen us in action, so you know that once the wrenches get a turnin we don't fool around.

How about coffee and donuts then? And weather permitting, what time?

Soooo.....then Vince is gonna be cookin' breakfast while we wrench on his car?
I'll have eggs over medium, bacon (crisp), french toast, hash browns, OJ, and coffee with cream and sugar. I would appreciate it if you would serve it promptly at 8. :)

Dudes by the time you show up, Oz and I will have it all done. It's no-brainer work. I ain't cookin' for no one this time. BYOC and D (coffee and donuts) if you must come. If we're not there, then we ran off to the dyno for some tests. I'm thinking you guys need to show for the celebration, but there just ain't enough to do this time out. The exhaust system is not built yet, only designed, so we still have stock. Oh crap, I just remembered that's the maid's day so I can't even go in my own house. Nah, I say let's make a day of it another time. If we screw up, I don't want the stooges to see. :p

Well stooges we can meet for breakfast and let them do their work and later go by the dyno shop and view the happenings. I'll buy. IHOP? MIMI? original pancake house? Vince did not email me his address I forgot where he lives. Vince seems to have wrenching under control and the space in there is tight anyway. I'm racing this weekend and will be getting ready for that. I may need to mount up some rain tires there is a chance for racing in the rain. Bruce do you have an extra set of 348 or 355 OE wheels to sell?

FBB, sorry about the confusion. It was a great day and a real stooge fest. Bruce showed first followed by Ernie and the wrenching began while we awaited goth's arrival with the replacement parts. What looked like a pretty routine replacment project actually turned into quite a day, with a small lunch break. The installation looks amazing and better than stock, IMO - and this is the beta temporary install.

I gotta say that there are some seriously great brothers out there in the stooges. It was the best car day I have had in over 30 years when my buddies and I used to hang out and rebuild out Vettes together over beer and jalapeno pizza. I learned an incredible amount about the top end of the 348. When I started it all looked like a frightening mass of wires, vacuum lines and crap. When it was done I knew about where everything should go and what it does.

Bruce - you're a real friend and stooge. For some reason when you're around a project I feel like it can't go wrong.
Ernie - you are a character and a half and i love ya man. You always mamke sure it doesn't get too boring or too serious and it really helps that you know your way around these engines. You're like the pinball wizard - all by feel.
Oz - you are truly THE mad scientist of the stooges. It's amazing what you will take on and the lengths you will go thru for the sake of knowledge. I look forward to our continued project development and try not to be surprized with the next thing you come up with.

Results and pictures will be posted by the stooges soon. Yes, the car was dynoed and yes we made some gains, but goth needs to explain it since I am just a stooge (now). :)

My thanks to all the stooges. Oh, am I a real stooge now? Do I get a card or something?

    Vince

Well here is news...... normally mods are done to the intake and exhaust together..... or even easier yet, do the exhaust first. In our instance, since we wanted to see any incremental gain or loss attributable to our mods............... we decided to to do intake first...... up against an all stock exhaust.

We had some gains, though not as much as we would have liked. But considering what actual material changes were made....... it was a solid and very real gain :).

    1. We took three baseline dyno runs which overlayed each other within a tenth of a HP.

    2. We then took the runners and trumpets then smoothed them out. The runners actually have an 'hour glass' shape. They are biggest at the top...... shrink down...... then open up again to meet the gasket. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have opened up the smallest 'hour glass' point alot closer to the gasket size.

    3. The throttle bodies were opened up 2.5mm each, with new butterflies installed. Ironically the bellows that feed the TBs were no bigger than the new TB size..... :(

    4. I drew up some 0.25" plenum spacers in CAD and had them machined. Along with some small TB spacers in order for the linkage to clear the manifold.

    4. Stooge members plugzit, ernie, vvassallo and myself then assembled and installed the many parts with great enthusiasm and finesse... :D!!!

    5. The next day we went back to the same dyno with big hopes...... though humidity on this day was 40% vs only 25% on baseline day.....(in case anyone does not already know... humidity is not good for HP making.... :(.).... the temperature was mid sixties for both days and within 3 degrees faranheit. All new 'mod' runs overlayed as well.. :).

    6. First picture is the dyno sheet (runfile004 is baseline and runfile008 is after intake mods) showing modest but real gains.....:D.... followed by before and after runner pics along with the installed manifold by 'Team Stooges'.......... ;)......
