I know this isn't really a strong 996 forum :D , but I wanted to post for anyone who might be interested. I bit the bullet and used my slush fund (shhhhh, don't tell the boss!) to buy these DEPO LED tail lights for my 2000 996. It truly was plug and play with the only mod being that I moved a resistor that is supposed to get hot sometimes. It took about 10 minutes start to finish.

I posted a couple of pics including one with the old and new lights installed together to really see the change.

I'm not affiliated with DEPO or anyone else, just posting for those interested. I also posted a video on Youtube showing them working through the different functions.

I would have waited until dark for the pics, but I was excited!

Looks great. Have you already changed out the headlights for white-only ones?

The front corners/parkers have the LEDs also if that's what I think you mean. Here's a pic of the front.

Yes, the car is so much nicer looking without the half-yellow headlight cluster of the 99-01. Have you looked into color-matching or removing the bumperettes in the rear?

I have thought about it, just haven't really looked into it. I'm not sure if I would like it or not. I almost think the black breaks up the red a little.

I did mine (apparently in 2008) with rattle can paint ordered from one of the on-line paint stores that will make spray cans to your paint code. There was a ton of sanding and primer involved, to get the original texture of the plastic to go away, and then many coats of clear and much sanding in between coats to make the orange peel go away. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but knew I could buy new black ones if it didn't work out.

They run $598 with S&H but I wasn't going to drop $300+ on the cheaper Asian knockoffs. I heard a lot of horror stories involving those and their wiring headaches.

    Nice touch.
How is the quality compared to the original?
    You think they will last?
Ive read some horror stories on 997.1 models and was frustrated but I am tempted for a little facelift, or should I say bottomlift?
Please report back in a month or so and kindly attach a night shot.

The quality is better than stock. The connectors are much better and it just feels (weight, etc) like a better light. I will take a night pic tonight.

It's the headlights that are the visual eye sore of the 996. While it would cost a lot I suppose, I wonder if anyone has ever fitted the 997 headlights onto a 996?

Weird. Lately, hitting the "back" button to is generating duplicate posts for me. Didn't used to.

Yes but at an insane price.
I know two people that did that but only after they rear ended a bus and a semi truck.
Requires a lot and i quote A LOT of parts.

There are also some plastic lids that can cover up the vast amount of headlight area and seperate them to something that looks like two pieces.

Yes, that's silly money. It makes more sense to save that money for a 997 as their prices come down over time.

The "half-yellow headlight cluster" was used on the 911 only for the early MY '99s. Starting sometime midyear '99 the 911s switched to all clear headlights(i.e. midyear '99-'01 all 911s had clear headlights). I think you are confusing the Boxster with the 911.
