175 s go 110 MPH, thats fast enough, the track is all about the turns, not the straights, same as a motorcycle. All the F1 champs started in race karts. Straight line speed in a car does not thrill me, I guess thats because I ride motorcycles. Anyone can go fast in a straight line, its no big deal in any car, its that simple. The acceleration of a motorcycle is miles above any road going car, and I dont care about the tesla, take it fast around a corner, and youll kill yourself. Ive talked to many guys in karts who have said its much more fun than tracking a road car and it takes stamina , balls and skills . G
Turn 1 at Pacific Raceways in an F8 is at 160+. You crest a big hill while taking turn 1 at 135 at Laguna Seca. You go from 160+ down to 110 as you enter turn 1 at The Ridge. Yes, top drivers all karted as kids. But you really can't compare the two. Even bone stock, I'm pulling 1.5 Gs around turns at the Ridge on top of taking turns at over 100
There are a lot of outstanding non pros bro. If you actually went to a track event you'd see that. Randy Probst was in our group at Laguna Seca in August
I went to a Ferrari track day at Willow a while back, some rich oil guy was in MS F1 car driving it like a punk , so yes Ive been at a track day, Im not impressed with the common folk. Shifter Kart are way more involving, unless your in a race car.Lets say a 333 SP, or an F1 car, now your talking. I can do the speeds your talking about on public roads. no big deal in a road going car. . G
No question. You pull more than 2 Gs in a Kart with slicks. But it's a completely different experience. It sounds like you've never tracked a fast car, and it's hard to explain to someone that's never done it. There's a reason why the advanced group has so many pro racers in it. It's the real deal
ya, I've never worn one- they're a nuisance... and 250 track miles sounds fine I guess but aren't tracks only like a mile to 3 miles long? So how the F is that 2 days worth?? Anyway so much for my wanting to try the car on a track... so not worth the expense and abuse for me.
Sessions are typically 20 minutes long, I get around 8 laps per session. 6-7 sessions per day, so around 50 laps. 2.5 miles per lap (depends on the track obviously), 125 miles per day. 2 days works out to 250 miles. Lots of people will run more durable tires. Super Sports will last 5 track days (I barely squeezed out 6), so over 600 miles. But...I track a LOT more than normal. Most people will do 3-4 track days and if you have Super Sports, you'll get more than a year of regular driving along with the track days at that rate. You gotta do it bro...it's so much fun
I agree with Dave. Not only is it it fun, but you will increase your driving ability immensely, and you’ll learn what these cars are actually capable of. Also, and I sincerely mean no disrespect, but you’ll learn so much more about the cars that you will absolutely be able to notice the differences between a car that performs at a 296 level vs one at the F8 level….even on public roads. You’ll eventually look back at your earlier comments and smile.
I was actually an auto tech many years ago. ASE etc... I would love but just can't I guess. No access, no $$ etc... I understand what you mean... I'm simply saying for what most people use these cars for, you can't tell a difference 'that matters'... but ya I get it
You know what's expensive? Kids. Adding my 16 year old to my truck insurance increased my rates by $1000 for six months and she just dropped her phone and broke it. THAT'S ALL TRACK TIRE MONEY!!! HAHA
are you not worried about what will happen if you crashed without wearing a seatbelt? - on track harnesses are so much better than seatbelts too (obviously even more of an annoyance to put on) but they really help you feel secure and feel connected to the car
Lol he’s not but if he someone on here tells him there may be one micron of back pressure added to a 100cel to an exhaust mod to his F8 he worries for the cars long term health
I would even go as far to say there’s no reason to own exotics if you are not going to track them. That’s just my opinion though
+1 for a racing harness. I had a harness bar and 4 point belts install by 425 motorsports. I wear it for track days with a HANS device. To me what would be worse than dying is actually surviving but being a vegetable or paralyzed. Obviously best case scenario is never crashing...but no (sane) person plans on crashing Image Unavailable, Please Login
Those belts look too wide for a HANS device. Are they 3” wide? Might just be the angle of the photo, but please anyone buying harnesses make sure you install belts which are safe to use with a HANS and aren’t too wide. 2” or 3” is safe, anything wider is not. I’ve run into more than a few student cars at the track that weren’t safe because of this.
They're 3", but the HANS device works fine with it. You just have to have the outside of the belt inside the little wing of the HANS device
There is a reason that small town police departments close to rural tracks set up just down the road between 3-6pm on published track days. Brings in a lot of revenue for the town's coffers when drivers forget they are back on regulated roads and not on the track they were pushing hard on all day. Where 60mph feels like 25mph.
You know, I've never gotten a ticket in my F8. I did see a lot of speed traps after my last track day, but not near the track. But yes, speeding tickets are a source of revenue for small towns. You should drive accordingly
My last driving class, according to the email chats, half the class got pulled over within two miles of the track. Luckily for half of them, they had badges that got them off with a warning.... Most really thought they were driving slower than they were after the day of fast turns and triple digits in the straights. Instructors warned everyone, wasn't enough. Be careful out there.
