Have currently got a 19" flatscreen that I like a lot - perfectly clear, no dead pixels and nice and bright. However, am starting to get a little antsy, and was thinking about upgrading to those 16:9 aspect ratio 20"-ers. Here's one from Dell that looks interesting:

    I would prefer slightly higher resolution (1600 x 1200).

Anybody have experience with 20"+ flatpanels that they like?

Thanks Eric - that thing is freakin' BIG!

I assume the monitor comes with the relevant software for the card-reader?

I also want something where the text is SMALL due to the screen being ultra high resolution which is why I was saying I prefer 1600 x 1280. My current 19" is 1280 x 1024 and I wish I could make the resolution higher but am limited.

Looks great. Any chance you can take a picture of the screen so I can gauge resolution. Obviously it's higher resolution, but also a much more screen...

    Thanks again!

    Thanks Greg........

It works well for me, so just giving Dell their due. I was concerned about the weight on the arm but I just tightened it and it works great.

    24" or go home...........

Just curious, Eric, what year model is that Breitling?

Great-looking watch! Went on their website and don't see that exact model.

I DO like the Bentley Mulliner Perpetual!! Only 100 made in the rose - probably quite spendy, I would imagine.

LetsJet, thanks for the input. My desk has a hutch that the monitor fits in and 24" is going to be too big. So leaning towards the 20" Dell monitor - the 2001FP.

I've got a Dell 19" now which has been perfect. I like the 20" b/c of the high resolution - running at native res of 1600 x 1200 (vs. 1280 x 1040 currently) so the text will be nice and small, just like I like it.

Dell's return policy is also fantastic so any dead pixels can immediately be returned.

Here's the product. Let me know what you guys think.

Will do. BTW, Dell has great deals running on all flat-screen monitors - 10-20% off, free-shipping, and there are some good coupons out there too. Plus, superb exchange / replacement policy.

Makes for some nice Christmas presents...

Hey Vik - I have a 42 inch Plasma for my monitor in my little home office :)... Go big or go home.

Actually my main monitor is a 17in Flat - and I can switch to the 42 Plasma on the wall behind me if people are over, photos, online poker, etc. When I built the house I prewired it to my servers downstairs so I could have one or both monitors working at the same time.

Pretty cool this time of year when my wife comes in the office to shop online for X-mas gifts, etc... She can sit on the couch or chairs while I drive on the computer...

I am about ready to upgrade systems - I am going to replace my 17" for a 23" dell... honestly take a look and really see if you need higher resolution than 1600X1200... After that the screen size gets pretty small/font/ets. Unless you are doing heavy graphic work, etc. I would think that is all you need. As well this holds the price point down as well.

I am not a graphic artist or anything and for e-mail, web, word, excel, photos and the occassional movie editing - 1024X768 is probably enough 1600X1200 is more than I would need...

Servers?! Pre-wired?! Plasma monitor?! LOL - Rich I would expect nothing less from you. - :)

I've lived with 1280 x 1040 for a while, and while it's more than adequate, I'm a big fan of small, tight, crisp text / graphics etc - ie, a larger desktop "landscape." Of course, using this native resolution will mean that finding beautiful wallpapers to fill up the screen will be a b*tch (a standard 800 x 600 image will look absolutely tiny), but that's ok.

The 20" Dell widescreen was something that looked cool (see my first link), but it didn't give me any higher resolution (more resolution but larger screen so comes down to the same), which is really what I was looking for. Ditto with the 24" that LetsJet is using - great for more space, but still not higher resolution.

Let's see how it goes. If it ends up being too small, I'll get rid of it. Half the fun with these gadgets is the experimenting.

T minus three months to your Spider, right?!
