Since buying my 1988 Ferrari Testarossa I have been trying to make any upgrades that improve reliability or the cars look & sound. So far I have made the following upgrades or waiting for the parts to arrive. I will have a major service & repaint done this spring along with re-dying the interior. Have I missed any upgrades that would make sense?

    Dave Helms fuse box upgrade
Dave Helms gold kit - In progress
    Hyper-Flow Pre-Cat test pipes
    Hyper-Flow Cats
    Capristo exhaust
    Heavy Duty starter
Paul Newman's carrier upgrade - To be done with major service
    Daniel Stern's Head light upgrade
    Razzo Rosso 18" racing wheels
    Aluminum racing pedals
Center console in brushed stainless steel
    Shocks rebuild

No need for the heavy duty starter.. Just get yourself a WAI solenoid and that should do the trick. Its around $12.00. Fuse box and gold kit is the only way to go.. You may want to contact Dave Helms and get a set of Taylor ignition wires made. The Cavis wires are garbage and Dave has the remaining stock of 7mm taylor wire.. So worth it..

Wow that's quite a list of improvments James! Not much room left. Maybe upgrade the rubber blocks in the shifter rod to more modern materials....I don't recall off hand who makes them, unless someone chimes in....you'll probably have to do a search. You could also consider upgrading to LEDs for the tail lights, etc.

Verell/ Unobtainium Supply has the upgraded Delrin bushings for the shifter linkage.

I have an improved brake vacuum pump shaft....takes about 15 minutes during a major to check and see if your's is snapped and even if not it seems to be a "not if but when" sorta deal.....

I suggest doing the Dave Helms hose upgrade as well....

Don't think it is unreliable just 23 years old, needing updating and some potential issues taken care of. When I bought my 1971 E Type it was upgraded to a 5 speed, EFI, custom programed ECU, custom intakes, SS high flow exhaust, cover head lights, custom paint job.

I had the starter rebuilt at a local shop and part of the rebuild was a heavy duty solenoid and a relay. After reading a post from Dave Helms about what happens if the relay gets dirty and shorts I removed it.

Looks like I will be talking to Dave tomorrow about a set of Taylor ignition wires, Fuel hose and Coolant hoses. I will also look at the Delrin bushings for the shifter linkage & improved brake vacuum pump shaft.

When I was tearing apart the dash to repair the shrinkage I updated the lights to LEDs. When I finish the headlights the only stock lights will be the third brake light.

I don't see the fuse box upgrade. All that work and you risk it on a possible fire....not good!!

    Nice job !!!!!!!!!

I did the fuse board upgrade when I found the burnt white connections and the PO wiring mods which didn't solve the real problems. Took a while to trace out the wiring system and undo everything. Upgraded to LED lights & Daniel Stern's Head lights to further reduce the load on the fuse board. The burnt wire connections annoyed me enough that I bought new white connections so I can replace them and tighten up the connections at the same time.

Talked to Paul Newman about upgrading the brakes and then decided that they were only really needed if I decided to track the car. I will rebuild the current brakes and update the pads.

The hose kits are being shipped by SRInnovations so should have them in a week. Need the pull the distributor caps and wires for SRI to clean, rebuild, and test.

I can color match the spoiler lip and side skirts when I paint the car. Already have the Hill shift knob in SS and decide the keep the original steering wheel until I find one I like better.

Will look at changing out the suspension rubber for better handling when I rebuild the shocks.

The 100 extra HP everybody talks about wanting would be nice but that seems like a really expensive project.

    Jim,

You are definitely doing it right! I plan on doing these same upgrades my testarossa when I get one at the end of this year. Do you have any updates on how the installs went? Any other changes you have made?

    Thanks,

    Matt

Can you explain this one please: Daniel Stern's Head light upgrade ? (I did one with Xenons and am very pleased ...) ... :)

Do you already have the additonal relay on the Starter ?
