Was your old evaporator defective or are you replacing it with an upgraded unit?

No, the evaporator wasn't defective, I'm just improving the air flow. I'm told a serpentine design is better than a tube and fin, but finding and adapting one of those, or getting one custom made, is above my pay grade

Patrick, is the new motor has the higher or faster RPM?

You get colder air the slower the air blows.

Cold air is not the problem as mine does get cold it’s just doesn’t have enough air speed or volume specially on a hot day.

    Sure it does.

You can shoot that air thru that evaporator at light speed and it wont be in their long enough to transfer the temperature very well.

    Well, that is true.

Plus we have the solar panal windshield and all that hot air blowing in thru the crack by you foot.

Every little bit helps, I suppose.

    Hi Mike
The new fan pushes out 588 cfm, the standard one about half that. I'm not sure what rpm it does

Just gone through this thread, and there seems to be a couple of missing posts. Must be the FerrariChat App, which I notice is fried at the moment. I'll try and dig up the pics and use tapatalk...

OK, me bad, I posted them in the wrong thread. There is a similar thread about upgrading a 303's cooling fans running concurrently - I can't switch the posts, so I'll re-post the pics here...

Still a bit more work to do on the evaporator housing. Here's the mounting plate mid fabrication [IMG]

The new blower is so wide at the face, it reaches the metal frame of the housing. This makes it a stronger mounting, but there's a pronounced step to the plate, so I made up a thick card gasket to give a level mounting face

Here it is trial assembled. You can see the pencil lines where I need to further relieve the plastic housing [IMG]

I carefully marked out where the screw heads would foul the evaporator frame and drilled tiny holes to clear them. They were so far out, I must have broken the laws of physics to get it that wrong. So I drilled great big ones! The frame is still plenty strong enough...

Electric motors have maximum torque a zero rpm. If you control speed but using resistors, it drops the voltage, and the motor has no grunt until almost max rpm. It also generates heat. A far better solution is pulse width modulation (look it up). This gives full voltage at all times, but varies power by using narrow pulses, at higher and higher duty cycles, until full power at 100% duty cycle.
Anyway, I just had to have one.
