Hi, Wanted to ask those who have done this move whether they found it worthwhile. General comments would be great. I am thinking of upgrading my 360F1 (which has been great). Too early for a 458 for me so thought why not move to a F430 for a year or two. Thanks Jon
I have not made that move, but have driven both extensively. I did have a 360 spider for a while. IMO, the 360 looks better than the 430. But, one can never argue with more power! The 430 drives better and harder. Not to mention the service advantage of no belts needing changing in the 430. They are great values these days. I say go for it. Ray
an upgrade appears to be about 40-60k from a 360 to a 430 (similar type of car) you have to ask yourself.. do you want the 430 THAT much more? that you want to drop 50k for the other car? personally for me, I am having a hard time making that decision.. especially since the 360 is a modern classic and still powerful and impressive enough to make one happy.. consider this: with that 50k (or a bit more) you can also buy a - 1 06-07 vantage 2 a noble m12 3 02-03 vanquish 4 gallardo you can buy other awesome cars and just expand your collection.. I am not sure if that is what you want to hear.. but I have noticed one thing.. with the recent horrible depreciation it seems a reasonable alternative to spend that 50k+ into another car.. you can get so many incredible exotics at under 100k now.. and the 360 is such a wonderful car.. I dunno.. just food for thought.
get the 430, i just did and freaking happy i did instead of a beat up stradale. night and day the 2 cars.
The secret is NOT to buy anything that's 'beat up'. A CS is a very unique car, and really isn't comparable to a work a day 360/430. It does sound like you made the right decision for you.
The 50k differential isn't lost. While the 430 still has depreciation left, it will always be worth more than a 360. It's true that 360s have pretty much hit the floor (diminishing depreciation... any drops from here on out are minuscule), but the depreciation on 430's has slowed-- and they've already taken their "majority" hits at this point. In fact, there probably is not much more to squeeze out of them in the short-term. Moral of the story, if you have the cash and don't feel like the opportunity cost lost over the duration of your 430 ownership is a major deterrent, you'd be holding the difference in the car. With added miles and age, it might drop 20k. That's a lot more palletable, and a small price to pay for an experience very few have a chance to get. -Joe
Derek, your remark will spark a lot of discussion. CS is as unique as any Ferrari ever built. There is so much power in each of these modern Ferraris that unless you are tracking you won't get your money's worth in the upgrade. Adil.
Joe, I am willing to bet 430's with drop another 20k in the next year easily.. with the 458 out.. I would be guessing the price different in a few years will drop to about 30k from a 360 t a 430.. if he waits 1-2 years he can save some cash on the upgrade. I didn't mean the value would be lost.. I mean that lets say that if he enjoys his 360, might he enjoy life more by keeping the 360 and getting another car (v8 vantage, noble, gallardo) and adding to his feet? would that be more peasureable than trading in the 360 for a 430? perhaps
I was initially thinking that started seriously looking at a Gallardo. But on reading whats going on at Lambo, not sure if they will be in VW's hands for long. Really not interested in other brands so that leaves me thinking wait (as some say as really not much performance difference) or upgrade and have fun for 1-2 years and then go with a 458
Put 430 wheels on your 360 - it'll then look much better (and quite different) for the next couple of years !
my remark was between a stock 360 and stock 430. i esentialy turned my 360 into stradale anyways and know how the stradale drives. driven a scud a enzo a real cs a 360 and a 430. I am saying that between a stock 360 and stock 430 there is no comparasion. and i didnt have 130,000 to spend on a clean stradale. i had 00,000 to spend and i got it. yes there are only 5 numbers there not 6 and the stradale i am talking about is that pos with the it flag on the hood for 99k wasted 700 on a ppi on that car more problems than one can imagine
+1 I made this same evaluation, go to a red 430 spider from my red 360 spider or get a Vantage or an R8 for a bit more and keep the 360. I am going the latter route. On looks, I often mistake 360's for 430's and vice versa when they go by fast. I do think the 430 looks nicer (more modern), but the looks are not dramatically different enough to warrent the premium. On power, well, can't argue with that, but I don't drive my 360 that hard and while the power would be nice, I can buy a GTR for the difference and get that power in another car and still keep my 360. I think a premium of $25k would lure me in (if I could go from an '04 to an '07), but not more. I love my 360 and have no desire to get rid if it any time soon.
I had a year 2000 360F1 and loved it... until I drove an F430 at the dealership. Big mistake b/c it was then only a matter of time before I bought an F430. I like the looks of the 360 better, but that's it. The F430 is a better car in all respects and, as others have said, it's cheaper to maintain as there are no belts. I also bought a Gallardo Spider... another amazing car. I don't care what anyone says about Audi's ownership... this is a Lamborghini through and through. I love that the electronics are sourced from Audi, this means they work. The heart and soul of this car is Italian and trust me... it's an amazing car. Do the upgrade... either car is a nice step up from the 360. Frank
I recently went throught the exact same question (somewhere there is a thread on the matter). But I have a 02 360 spider with tons of mods. I drove the scud on track for approx. 20 minutes as fast as my talent would allow, then got in my 360. NOW that is a huge mistake. I can NOT afford a scud now so I thought what about a 430. Well, after driving I thought it was ok. But not for the cash difference of going from a 02 360 spider with 24,000 miles to a 430 spider with some mile is = to approx $60 to $70,000. I love the 360 styling, etc. and for 70k. NOW that was crazy. so I purchased a Stradale TCU from (balenciaga) and WOW what a difference. It compliments the tubi ngt and hyper flow cats nicely. I would have most likely traded for around 20 to 30,000 MAX. I have a friend that owns a exotic car dealership and told me to wait until the 458's flood the market and then the variance will be much much less. I will WAIT until I can afford a scud even over the 458 (which is just an amazing car from what I understand) good luck and I am sure you will have many sleepless nights. Remember UNLESS you really spend a lot of time on the track, you will not get the true performance betweeen the 2 cars. AND for 50,000 you can car a porsche or another car for free). A Ferrari is a Ferrari whcih is a Ferrari. No one will go WOW that you have a 430 vs a 360. I had my car parked next to a 16m and most of the people came over to my car and were asking questions about it. SO here sits my 02 360 spider / wheels, lowered, exhaust, red paddle shifters, blah blah and the 16m (approxc $315,000) only a couple come over to see. I know that the 16m can do opn a track, BUT really how fast do you need to go to dinner ??? AGAIN, unless you spend a lot of time on the track. the 430 is much quicker that the 360. Spend your dollars on some mods and have fun.
I had a 360, the car looks good but to soft, hardly got a second look from people, if you care about that. The 430 is a totally different beast, is a much better version of a 360. I drove the Stradale, but liked the 430 better since it was going to be a manual shifter, I like the interior and aura of the Stradale more. Keep the 360 until the time for the 458 comes up unless you're not so happy with your 360 anymore.
Was thinking of that but at least 2 years wait before prices will be at a level I can afford a 2nd hand 458. Love my 360 but feel the "itch" for something newer. I know it probably wont make much difference on the road but what the hell. Life is too short to over analyze anything I suppose. Just wanted to get a feeling from you guys whether the difference will at least be noticeable. Going to test drive it anyway
360 doesn't get a 2nd look? I am currently in LA and I get plenty of stared in beverly hills even.. the 360 will always always get looks!
I was in your position when looking for a 360 vs 430. I ended up with a 360, then bought a 328 with the money I saved. Both are a blast. The 328 is much easier to park, and I don't worry so much about it when I park in a public parking lot. The 328 also gets a tremendous amount of looks. I decided to wait for the 458, but will probably always hang on to the 328 - it is just a fun little car. Also fun to ponder - hmm, yellow or red today? :>)
