    Hi,
Before the Business section was closed to subscribers only, I noticed that most restaurant/food store franchise ideas were voted down by the experienced business people on this board. My friend and I are looking to open a small business, and today, I came across the UPS store website and it said that the franchise cost to buy in is about 270,000k top with addtional 60,000 in liquid. Does anybody here have any insight/opinions, pros or cons about this type of business at all?
    Thanks,
    Ric

Not my area of expertise, but me's thinking if you could combine it with an EBay seller type of deal, it might work better.

Reason I say that is I want to sell some of my Nikon gear, but I'm too lazy to go see what it would end up costing me to sell it myself on EBay...

I notice in Seattle where my parents live, there is a store where they help sell people stuffs on E-bay and charge a fee, similar to one in the movie "The 40-year-old virgin", I think.

    Thanks !!

The e-bay stores are great money to an extent, so many people this day and age still don't know how to use a computer or have the time to deal with the hassle. The downside is dealing with items you may not know the value of or true condition of (think more specialized). You have to be really clear about as is and get ready to deal with buyers who may give you a hard time as ebay is full of the stupidest people in the world.

All those places seem busy. I use them for notary work because they're convenient and all over the place. IMO it wouldn't be any type of a get rich quick thing, more like money trickling in over time. If you run them yourself then be prepared to put in a 9 to 5 plus Saturday type hours. Go drop in a couple and see if the owners will give you the 411 on them.
