Working on my car, what's the best way to access the 12 mm filler plug without taking off the bumper?

I've pre-drilled the bumper to be able to get the transmission filter out, worked like a charm and dead nuts centered on the filter and the little screw tab. Now, before I actually drain the fluid and take the filter out I'd like to make sure that I can get the filler plug open before any of it...

    Looks like a pita...any suggestions?

    Thank you.

You can access the filler plug with the bumper on, it's a little tight but can be done. Your going to need an oil filler pump for refilling.

Be careful with the small filter, it's two pieces and can separate, make sure you get it out in one piece.

How do you get the wrench in for the filler plug?

I have a funnel with a long hose attached and clamps everywhere to use for filling from the engine bay, similar to what Alduos has done on his website -- would that not work?

See below for filling, although he has the bumper removed for working on the gearbox oil change:

Once the under tray is removed it's relatively easy from below with bumper on. I think there should be access from above but I just couldn't find that northwest passage.

My indie mechanic filled with a flexible hose and funnel from below with the under tray off (of course). I had drilled a 2⅜" diameter hole earlier so he just removed the plug and pulled the screen. Found shavings of aluminum from the case machining process.

Sure you can do it that way, I personally choose to try and make it as easy and clean as possible. The pumps are cheap and allow you to more accurately add fluid without spilling and overfilling gear oil everywhere. Pumps are $20-40.00 and your going to use it often. I change my gear oil yearly so it's worth me keeping one on my shelf.

I use a Mac flex head socket wrench to get in and remove the fill/level plug.

Everyone is going to have their own way of doing it, just make sure you fill it to capacity.

I got to this by disconnecting the air box. Not bad and now that I see how things go I think it can be done from the bottom without doing this. There's only about 1 or 2 inches of leverage to get a wrench on there.

My filter was perfectly clean which indicates it was cleaned at a previous service.

However, I was only able to drain 2.5 l out of the transmission, does this make sense?

I changed the oil with the car cold but let it drain for about 30 mins or so until it trickled.

Ok so I reverse measured what I drained out and it was about 2.5 L which makes sense, I put the same in 75W90NS and the transmission works great.

These cars are such a PITA to work on but it's obviously very rewarding...
