I drove one yesterday and I'm smitten. I have two Ferraris, so one would have to go 'cause I'm not that much of a nut.

So I had heard the transmissions were the problem....but did they shake that out with the S model in 2006? It still has`F-1 shifting, and in fact in drove perfect in every way. Puhleeze give me anything you can advise.

The Vanq tranny "problem" is well known, and it is the same tranny in the S model. However, the accelerated wear issues are mainly due to driver error. It is not an automatic transmission, and when in traffic at a stop light, for example, put the car in neutral. Just like you would for any manual transmission. Early owners didn't understand and burned through clutches at a prodigious rate. If you take it out of gear and put it in neutral when stopped, you shouldn't have a problem.

Me: My wife has been looking at an Aston Martin to replace her daily driver. How reliable are they?

Ferrari/Maserati/Aston Martin Service Manager: What's your current daily driver?

    Wife: BMW M3

Ferrari/Maserati/AM Service Manager: You'll being seeing way too much of me and you won't be happy.....buy another BMW.

    End of story.

I'll have to sign up to see that thread. I would have to give up my challenge Stradale if I were to get the Vanquish s. So anyone know if they made improvements over a certain period of time? And who made them? Is it a Magneti Marelli like f-cars, or worse than f-cars?

    Thanks guys!

Have the Aston Works shop come and replace the paddle shifter with a true shift for yourself clutch and manual shifter. They can "upgrade" any Vanquish.

IIRC, cost of the works manual conversion was GBP 25K, or approximately USD $40K. Not an inexpensive upgrade. Personally, I also don't care aesthetically for the way the shifter is positioned. Usually, Autosport Designs has 1 or 2 works-conversions cars on hand. Have a look at their site for interior pictures.

Fact of the matter is this. I liked the paddle shifters. They worked excellent. It was a gas to drive. I drove the DB9 a couple years ago and hated it......this felt nothing like that
