I know there a ton of threads and I looked through them but couldn't find the answer. What is the center-to-center distance of the mounting holes on the oem US 328 side mirrors? I'm trying to figure out what mirrors are available, if any, that would look better, still provide a decent view, and not require any new holes. I will not drill additional holes in the door so if nothing else will fit, then the flags stay!

Also, in looking at various Vitalonis, I can't find any site that lists all the appropriate dimensions. They just have pics of the mirrors which frankly isn't too helpful by itself. I'd like to see the overall base dimensions, the distance between the mounting holes, the size of the mirror itself. But so far no luck

Most Vitaloni's have one hole and one large slot. The baby turbo's I bought for the 308QV would bolt on no problem, and look very similar to the 308QV/328 euro mirrors. The weld nuts on the 308QV were M4X0.7, but I don't remember spacing. Maybe 140mm.

The problem you will run into is that no mirror will match the contour of the door. I had to machine an aluminum adaptor to transition from the flat mirror base to the door contour. It is not an easy machining job, mills aren't good at forming curved shape

Last Sunday at the Concorso in Pasadena, CA, I saw this car and asked the owner about the side mirror, he said both side are electric and he doesn't know where it came from as it came with the car when he bought it last year. I think it looks better than the US flag type. What do you guys think, does anyone knows where it's from?

    Mike,
I recently picked up a set of 328 mirrors (with badges) for my 308. I had the opportunity to "yard out" the mounting plates from inside the door while I was there so I have them too. Essentially, there are 5 holes. The first, middle and last are the mounting holes for the mirror bolts that pass through the door. The other two holes are for the rivets that hold the mounting plate in place on the door skin's underside. The spacing on the front to the middle hole is 70mm and the spacing on the middle to the rear hole is 50mm. If you want to see, take a look at the last 3 pics in this folder.

    Hope this helps,

I personally won't consider doing this if it requires any additional holes or enlargement of existing holes in the door. It would compromise the rust protection of the panel and would tend to promote rust starting at the new/enlarged hole. My car's in the rain on a regular basis...

However, it might be not that difficult to modify the mirror itself as long as it's base is long enough to cover the oem holes. Seems to me it would be much better to modify a mirror as opposed to modifying the car. But I say that not having seen any of the actual mirrors in question... ;)

    Mike,
It's not that the mirror couldn't be mounted over the existing holes it is the fact that to get a useable sight pattern I had to move them down. Just for conversation sake we were at a car show today and I see that the C4 mirrors are more wedge shaped and that may be even a better match for the 3X8. I'm just saying! T
