The news we have all been waiting for is here. We are happy to announce that FIA and the World Motor Sport Council released a confirmed calendar for the 2012 Formula 1 season today.

"Get ready: the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ is coming to Circuit of The Americas™ on November 18, 2012!

The inaugural Austin race could very well decide the outcome of the 2012 season, as it will be the second-to-last race of the season, running back-to-back with the Brazilian Grand Prix.

We at Circuit of The Americas are thrilled with this announcement and look forward to hosting this world-class event at its new world-class destination.

For up-to-the-minute news and ticketing information about the United States Grand Prix, please continue to check your e-mail, visit our website, and follow the conversation on our official Facebook and Twitter pages."

November for me is a good month. My busy season ends at the end of Oct and picks up again in late Dec/Jan until Chinese New Year.

Yes, I would love to go. The last GP I went to was Singapore 2 years ago. Besides, I understand the girls of Austin are lookers! Gotta love Texas! Yeehah!

Definitely have to love Texas! I plan to go with my girlfriend schedule permitting obviously! It would be great to get some Fchat guys together for the event.

It's a great area and there is plenty to do, it will be a fantastic venue

Once everything is set, we should organize an Fchat meeting. I think a lot of people would like that. Our Vegas get togethers were terrific. If we can get 20 people to go to Vegas, we certainly can get more than that to go the an F1 race in Texas.

Do they have strip clubs in Austin???? :)

Same here, I'll more than likely be staying in a summer home in Bastrop. It's close enough I'll bet I could hear all the practice sessions

November is so much better than July for the fans.

I suspect if the race was held in July, and we had a bad day (like 110dF), there would be many fewer fans for subsequent races.

I built a Marriott on 11th Street and I35, it has since been sold, but it has an indoor/outdoor pool, sun terrace along the creek, hot tub, and an ice machine on every floor....:D :D

I use it when I am in town because it's like "being at home" I know where everything is.
There are great suites on the west end of the upper floors, facing the Capitol.

Not close to the track, there's NOTHING close to the track.
It's a cow pasture on the east side of town!

I have our 'party place' posted in the F1 thread, all Fchatters welcome!

Bastrop will indeed be great for access to the track from that side, away from Austin.

When Asleep at the Wheel plays Copeland Dance Hall, I stay in Taylor.
    Same side of Austin..

Where is the sticky I requested darn it?! :D

I, like many others I suspect, aren't in position at the moment to pull the trigger on hotel reservations etc but when I (we) are ready I (we :D) think it would be handy to have a one-stop post/thread for info to avoid redundant questions and the infamous "search is your friend" type replies.

    TIA.

Bastrop has a few hotels and a Walmart, not much else.
Taylor is a bit far out and I do not believe it has much at all. That town closes down at 10pm. Nothing exciting at all, except for a bbq joint that takes an hour to work your way through the short line. Might as well stay in San Marcos, New Braunfels or even San Antonio instead of those two.

Right, it was a dumpy Motor Court hotel, IIRC.

The odd thing was the place we hit for breakfast had Ferrari posters all over the walls!!

    *cue Twilight Zone theme*

Just close to Copeland.......now ERCOT is in Taylor and they are pretty important these days, if you want to plug in a fan or something!
