Is Fiat beginning to separate Ferrari and Maserati? It looks that way, starting with LA Auto Gallery who have relinquished their Franchise to cross town rivals, Ferrari of Beverly Hills. In turn FOBH gave up their Beverly Hills Maserati franchise to LAAG who have now combined it with their McLaren dealership down the road on Wilshire. They have also added McLaren in Calabassas where Ferrari was once housed.

Is this a precursor to the introduction of Alfa to Maserati Dealers?
Technically Ferrari and Fiat Auto are separate companies, owned by a common holding company. Ferrari is a separate subsidiary entirely, while the Maserati, Alfa and Fiat brands all live inside Fiat Auto.

I do not have any answer however a new Maserati dealership is getting ready to open in my town which previously has not had a maserati or Ferrari dealership within 200 miles. I am real happy about it and hope that means the new Alfa franchise will also go to this dealership.. The owner has no ties to Ferrari but has several other dealerships in the area...non of which are italian cars..

Right now in San Antonio, Ferrari, Maserati, and Jaguar are all under the same roof. However, new owners have bought just the Ferrari dealership and are at this very moment searching for a location for a Ferrari of San Antonio only dealership.

Evidence seems to support your observation.

    Cheers,

    George

In San Diego, F and M used to be under one roof, but now are across the street from one another.

I suspect the Ghibli is taking Maserati into Audi/Merc/BMW territory in a bigger way, so may require a different dealership model than Ferrari.

I can say that we are building a new facility simply because of the increase of volume we are seeing... 10 cars a month to 40 cars a month, any Dealership will need more room for inventory and the upcoming fixed operations aspect.

Fiat has set a sales goal of 50k for Maserati. That sort of volume won't be generated from the traditional outlets.

I would think they would take alfa to the Ferrari dealers as they previously did maserati.

In my area, I know Alfa is going to a Fiat dealer first, then to the Maserati Dealer in MD and then to FMoW (or I have been told).

They say Ghiblis are selling fast and the 50k target is realistic.

About 2 years ago Algar Ferrari of Philadelphia, was Algar Ferrari & Maserati. Dealership changed hands and dropped Maserati. maserati is now with McLaren - Porsche of the Mainline. Makes you wonder how long ago this 50k + a year Maser production was planned and setup.

Personally, I don't understand why they are using the Ghibli model name ? 2014 version is a 4 door sedan not a 2 door GT car. I guess Quattroporte did go so well.

50K is probably attainable because it's priced competitively but in what time frame?? That's a lot of units in 12 months.

Amazing results ! I wonder if that can be sustained and scaled up or did they just fill the pipeline.

Alfa is going to FIAT dealerships first, because of their target volumes I'd guess. Alfa will later go to some FIAT/Maserati dealerships, but they won't go to any Ferrari-only places. Maserati-only I'm not sure about. Our local Maserati dealer was gutted when he found out he wouldn't be getting Alfa.

    Cheers,

    George

My only question is how is Maserati going to so drastically ramp up production and build a quality car? Obviously they are going to be adding new assembly line personnel. Who is training them? Is this on the job training?

I wouldn't touch one of these models for at least a couple years.

(I did see the engines being produced at the Ferrari factory this past April, but other than the engines, I wouldn't have a lot of confidence in other parts of the car.)

When you buy one, you're paying for the engine... you get the rest of the car for free.

Ferrari Maserati of Atlanta is still just that; in fact they've expanded their parking to be able to park more Masers on the property. However, there is now another Maserati dealer in town, a member of one of those dealership conglomerates that owns about eight other dealerships of various brands.

The last time I asked FMoA about Maserati, they were planning to continue on as currently, but of course the decision is really out of their hands.

I've heard that some owners new to the marque are a bit "disappointed" with reliability.

I hope not. There are never enough Italian cars.

I test drove a Ghibli, (Just as I tested the original before I bought my 330GTC). I really liked it, but was just too concerned about first year woes.

It's pretty unattractive. But then again, so is the new Quattroprte.
