Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

Why are you tying my argument to the feasibility of the GP in Austin? You said that you doubted kids had ever even WATCHED a race. I beg to differ.

Now that construction is at a standstill a 2012 race is virtually impossible but that is something I will happily deal with at the moment. F1 aswell as other racing series needs this dedicated track that has the best of everything. What the US does not need is another temporary street circuit.

OK, so how is the comment that I hope that the 'dozens' of kids you know interested in F1 manage to get to see a live event in Austin pessimistic?

Cynical, sure, learned to be since moving here in the 80s.

The pics are def good news. As far as haters/trolls go, COTA is the best one I know of. They are the ones who were STUPID enough to send a contract to Bernie.

With all that they still have'nt held a press conference to instill any confidence at all in their ability to hold this event, much less on time. Marketing.....anyone...no? Oh ok!

They were the one's who lost public money and then they hit all stop on progress. Yep they are quite well funded.

Id love to see this go off perfectly. The history thus far is well....pathetic to say the least. All thanks to COTA and or Tavo.

    Yep them's real pro's!! :)

Your remarks are sprinkles with facts and you are speculatively connecting the dots - I would hold off on calling people stupid unless you really know the full story.

One thing we DO know is that they are months behind schedule and are going to have to seriously pick it up if they want to get the track done in time.

No amount of fanboyism mitigates their own published schedule - that they are months behind on.

Very true and the delay makes a 2012 event very questionable. It will be interesting to see what takes place over the next few weeks/months.

Not another "vertical structure by fall" timeline lol. You are doing this to yourself Ben haha!

Oh well, seeing the track is not a trench anymore is very promising. Just pave the damn thing already!

+1 :) Gotta admire the dedication though!

+1 However, IIRC, didn't they discover "bad" dirt once they started moving it? - They'll get 'er paved and then it'll all move around and turn into some kind of monster truck track!

All joking aside, I still hope they'll get 'er done.

    Cheers,
    Ian

That comment I made was taken way too literally. I've been more right than wrong though, so I guess I'm ahead :)

Paving in January, would put them in line with the schedule(s) I found earlier this year, and posted here

Sometimes I feel like this thread is in a Prius forum or something, with all the negativity

Yes, but they were already excavating beneath the track to put in a 'vapor barrier' or something, so it was just a matter of them trucking in more dirt, versus putting the dirt back that they dug up. Can't be that much more work

That's why the course looked like a massive death star trench. They dug down deep to stable strata and then filled with stable stuff as a foundation.

I remember one of my first programming jobs was to revise the website of my employer. The legal department wanted the pages to all say "Copyright 1984-XXXX, ABC Corp", where XXXX was the current year. Scripted web pages had just started to come into usage, so I just wrote a script to insert the current year - so on January 1st at 12:01am, the copyright would have the current year automatically.

I think you may have the same script running on your computer, set to say "if they don't start vertical construction by <insert today's month + 2 months>, THEN I will be worried".

    :)

Shouldn't you be paying me royalties?

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]I went over to the build site yesterday & the overall scale of the build site is staggering, here's a few photos. Sorry if these are not the greatest, I couldn't get to the observation deck.[IMG]

I stand by what Ive posted. The best info for this project comes from the dedicated folks here..on this site, not COTA. I put you in the 'dedicated' category. My post was aimed directly at the people who have caused their own drama's on behalf of the very dedicated USA F1 fans who post right here.
Ive posted before that Im very impressed a purpose built F1 facility is in work. The group running it are using no means at all to promote or put out ACCURATE data at all.
The links to the progress pics posted by iamthesimple, WJH etc are the only thing we get.

Other than sprinkled bits in the press. Id like to thank you for sticking up for the project more so than COTA itself. I still think they are stupid :) Given today's tools for amassing and broadcasting data they deserve it.

Wonder what would happen if Indy wasn't pushing/advertising/investing in the upcoming Superbowl since it was a confirmed date. Or London with the Olympics next year......

The FIM Speedway finale next year in NZ has been a big buzz around the countries which have large fan bases and are already sold out. (that's another 'world championship' worthy of that title by the way).

If the COTA people thought they had any real chance they would be pushing it everywhere by now. What better than to show potential partners a high interest level from around the country or better the globe?

My rebutal is that is a valid point except for the FACT that a US F1 race has been setup for failure from day 1 from most of the world and sadly from alot of people (I refuse to call them F1 fans) here in the US.
