Understood on the latter - The Pygmy is certainly on top of that one.

However, I thought I could use a video camera as much as I wanted - Just for "private use" only.

I think it's complete and utter BS!

    Cheers,
    Ian

I was at 50% until I read this. Wife wants to go, but what is COTA thinking? They continue to leave a bad taste. Have to decide by next week, have 2 rooms on hold.

Sorry to be late to the party, but I just went to the COTA website. GA is sold out?

That's what they claim...... I call BS - I think they were a little shocked that all these "wealthy" F1 fans didn't belly up for GS tickets - Let alone their PSL nonsense.

I think they've simply stopped selling GA in an attempt to force you to buy a seat - Once they are sold, GA will magically reappear......

I know if I'd bought a PSL I'd be *pissed* that they're now on regular sale!

    As noted, truly astounding arrogance!

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Yup.

Tickets have been sold out how many times now? I think I've gotten three emails after they were "sold out" telling me tickets were available again. Also, there wasn't going to be onsite parking, and then I get an email selling 3 day parking passes.

    Yup! ;)

Don't recall, but aren't they also ludicrously expensive as well?

The one that really got me was RV parking - What was it, $15,000 for a spot!?

Bend over and drop 'em seems to be their mantra!

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Thanks Ian.

Is there a site where you can go and see a computer image of the actual view you would have from your seat? At these prices, I would want to see as much as I can.

You are correct about the arrogance. 3-4 years max, it will be over for COTA. If Indy could not make it with reasonable ticket prices after 5 years, then in reality COTA will go away. Honestly, it would not make me sad. The wife likes the idea of Montreal anyway. I calculated that going to Brazil would be about the same as COTA.

I believe you. What I meant is we'll have to see whether they actually enforce this ridicule rule. No (D)SLRs is absolutely unheard of.

And the nonsense about no video camera or no sound recording: Any iPhone can do just that, hello!

    It really is.

I've been going to GPs every year for like the last 15 years. I've never ever seen a rule prohibiting SLR cameras. They're absolutely insane.

I was thinking the same. There are nowadays very good cameras, which are not SLRs and which are not 10" long. I'll have to take a walk over to one of the pro Photoshops to see what's currently available. Still sucks to have to buy an expensive camera for just one event.

Speed TV will broadcast it from on location.

Also, COTA's facebook page is exploding with complaints about the detachable lens ban. I think they are getting lots of calls and emails. Seems like they really crossed the line with that one, wouldn't surprise me if they backpedal on it. I can't imagine whatever vendor or photo concession they are trying to protect is worth the level of outcry they are receiving.

The other banned stuff is somewhat understandable, but typical money-grab stuff that doesn't respect the fan. Anyway, I sure hope their food/beverage vendors don't run out... and not looking forward to what will surely be extremely long lines to get anything.

    +1

At the first Indy race they ran out of *beer* before the race even started!....... They were "surprised" that F1 fans actually wanted to watch the race and ergo get their (outrageously expensive) beer ahead of time. Apparently, they had the beer, but due to the crowds couldn't get it out to the concession stands in time.

I've gotta go with Napolis on this cluster-****; "Just say no!"

    Cheers,
    Ian

I chose to "just say no" early on when the seat license BS started. I'll see how the first year goes and what they do for tix next year before I decide whether I want to support this race. So far, my decision to stay home this year seems to be proper even though the circuit itself looks great.

COTA Just announced on Facebook, you WILL be allowed to use cameras with detachable lenses. Max 10".

What morons, first they piss off everybody, now they look like total idiots.

The 10" limit is apparently still in effect. Without further clarification what that actually means (lens in closed state or fully extended).
