Probably the best plan, I cannot make heads or tails of "views" from my info...the south straight with have them on full song, but that is the RV parking Section, you'd probably be blocked by babes in halter tops, jumpng up and down in bikini bottoms. WTF!!!! T11 is the bottom of the hill hairpin, for passing, but will be CLOGGED with photographers I'd imagine...still hillsides may make it good. *shrugs shoulders* Friday and Sunday Track opens 7:30AM Saturday Track opens 7:00AM YOU guys are gonna KILL me, getting up that early, my 'check in' is like 6AM.. I'll just have Charlie Robison drop me off in the Tour Bus, as he heads back to the ranch in Bandera from Antone's...
FWIW, my 02c; Watching 'em flat out is a good Friday exercise - Until you've *felt* them like that you simply don't understand. However, as a vantage point for the race, not so much. BT; Do you know if the RV parking spots actually fetched the huge $'s they were asking? [IIRC, something like $10K?] The gates don't open till 07:30?! WTF?.....Part timers! IIRC, Silverstone was 05:00, and if you had GA, you better be in line long before that..... Cheers, Ian
South Congress at Live Oak, behind the mosaic squid!! Actually they DID warn some of the surrounding acreage contained swampy areas, (to scare those thinking of walking in) but everything inside the fence is as well groomed as .........well, Tamara. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I should explain that, maybe...... In the esplanade in front of my crash pad, there is a public work of art by the City of Austin. The title of it is "Your Enlightened Magnificence"....or something like that. It's a HUGE concrete tile structure, with a seat in the front to sit and it forms a rather peacock like fan behind you. There are also three portholes and concrete blocks in the back, creating a porthole opportunity for your friends like the Carnival cutout photo ops. But this whole thing is right in his front yard, basically. The night of his Stag Party I caught a roller derby team posing on it about the time the topless dancers were leaving, so I had them into his living room (patterned concrete floor) and after some Irish whiskey, they skated 'round and 'round and round'.... They finally left about sunrise...... The art obviously has deep metaphysical meaning, (everyone has inner energy and beauty) but it's very undulating and organic, like a living coral fan underwater, so I named it "the Mosaic Squid"..... If you get to the Lingerie Store, with the neon clad stripper mannequins in the window, you went too far, turn around.... They have restraints and toys there, too......
Texas WAS "The Friendly State", but that was before it became the "Overrun with illegal criminals, drug runners and gang bangers" State..... It's still a good place. I guess you could say I'm working hard to overcome the naivety of the COTA itself, as we have seen "how well" they handled the local hotel industries, advance Press and all that. Of course, the chirpy girl leading my orientation (ex Dallas Cowboys organization) was quite dismissive with "We don't have any control over THAT!" It sounded JUST like "Well, fiddle dee dee" in Gone With the Wind!
I think I've been to your buddy's place before. At least the front lawn, during the last Lone Star Custom Hod Rod rally. If it's where I'm thinking of, really nice folks and they welcomed us who were just there to watch the cars cruising SoCo. The median with the mosaic spider thingy would be right across the street from their yard, between them and the refurbished old cinema across the street.
Indeed..that's it. He's a very sweet guy, just married a High School flame. "Hi babe, I'm the guy that comes with the house,..... sleeping on the couch" She's great though, she bought me a NEW couch!! The cops were hiding behind the old Porn Theatre (now Adlucent) in cruisers waiting to pounce if any one staged off the stoplight there by Tree House.. He's old Austin, his grandmother owned the whole block from Live Oak to Oltorf. The Pizza Place was a Dairy Queen, her old house is now an office but still there, and the SoCo Auto Repair, they still own a lot of that. My blue Ferrari is in the alley under a car cover, resting....
That has not helped..... Growing up in Galveston you observed, if you were wise, that if you lived like a gangster, you died like a gangster. Not a great way to go, in most cases....I passed.
That's a cool place. Very Austin, just like the old days, an old house in a funky neighborhood where you might find a band playing and a bunch of folks casually hanging out in the yard. Lots of good places to walk to and eat or shop right nearby. Except in the old days, no mass gathering permits or sound ordinances!
You got it, Permits shut down my party, I had several bands lined up to do it. He actually JUST finished that house with all the beautiful rock work.....'designed' to look old! We met in Architecture at UT, after all... It's okay, I won't have to clean up after the party! Here he is, he probably did come out and say "Hello...." Last weekend a special needs kid in a wheelchair was picking up his pecans, he doesn't mind.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
This close to the event it's like: "Fix all the things you can, if not...move them to a new seat".... I am 'empowered' to replace a little kid's drink/hot dog if he drops it, too.... Now, don't come looking me up and dropping your $20 hot dog! LOL! I can tell, if you have eaten over half of it!
Just got back from Formula Run this morning, the first event held at the track. First off the good The track looks like it's ready to hold a motorsports race. All of the track surface is finished, all the safety stuff appears to be in place and the main building look pretty much finished from the outside. The run up to the first corner is awesome! You're basically looking at asphalt right in front of your face going up ten stories into the first hair pin. Should be really cool to watch and I can't wait to get out there in my own car. There's a substantial amount of elevation change and it looks like a lot of good viewing points around the track to see lots of action. Now the bad This race has the potential to be a huge cluster****. With this being the first event held at the track (and a small one at that) I figured they would have used it as a dry run for actual race day. If anyone is thinking of trying to drive to the race I would STRONGLY advise against it. The exit off the toll road for COTA is a single lane that hits a stop sign of a two lane road. Traffic was backed up for 2 miles that I sat in for 45 minutes to exit (and this was after being ****** and driving almost all the way up to the exit and cutting in). This is very concerning since this was to accommodate 15, maybe 20 thousand people, not the 100+ we're expecting on race day. There are still quite a few areas of the track under construction, mainly the observation tower and grandstands. It does appear that they will be able to finish them up before race day though. Sorry no pictures, it was incredibly foggy this morning, maybe 100 feet of visibility on the road and maybe a quarter of a mile at the track.
That sounds bad man. And remember people can get there early. But EVERYBODY exits at the same time. It'll be a nightmare, even with cops flagging traffic at that stop sign. They need to fix that for next year. That, plus the reported hotel price jacking of up to SEVEN times higher, I rather go to Montreal. Curious to hear comments after the race.
Not necessarily: I'm always the first to leave any event. No point in waiting for the chequered flag if the punishment is sitting hours in a traffic jam.
Saying she must be an expensive piece of a$$ is an understatement, huh? Few in the world can keep up with that. I do that too, but the great majority pretty much leaves at the same time. Plus that race should be quite relevant, with few leaving early. The stories will tell .
never understood this behavior. people leaving a ball game in the seventh inning or the third quarter. why go at all? i guess i'm weird but i stay until the place is empty. i enjoy being there, that's why i came in the first place. if it was just to see the event, watch it on tv.
