+1 I think I said that a month or two ago. I knew a family that owned a track - they made good money. They sold the track, new owners complain they are not making any money, but losing a ton. Same track, same people, same car count, same crowd, so how can this be? (some of us already know the answer)
If FOTA didn't get an agreement with Bernie on a US GP before they signed the concorde agreement, why is he going through all these shenanigans, and why all the pressure to run it by 2012?
bernie is a big fan of schadenfreude. as for 2012, without time pressure things just don't happen. why not 2012? if it is to fail, you want it to fail quickly. there may be pressure for a USGP but there is no agreement.
Don't let this "lack of construction/deadline too close" crap give you a reason to believe that it's not going to happen. I'm a lifelong Texan, and as a couple of other people have noted, we know how to do short deadline construction down here. We are a right to work state, with low union presence. When the men and equipment hit the site, sh*t gets done and it gets done FAST. There's plenty of legitimate arguments to make about the USGP. Will the financing be secured? Will the promoter/track go bankrupt after the first GP? But the fact that there's no bulldozers tearing up the land don't mean jack.
But the Evil Pygmy says Austin is "100% certain"..... And he *never* BS's! I can't find the thread in the Texas forum now but was going to ask the locals how it's progressing - They must be moving dirt by now? Cheers, Ian
Last time I checked, Peter Windsor was licking his wounds in Charlotte and auctioning toasters. As long as he stays out of Texas, I'd give our boys in the Lone Star State the benefit of the doubt.
I believe it was reported on Speed that New Jersey is a go. I heard it from a very good source that the Jersey deal has been inked - but, since its through a thrid party I'll just say that I am pretty darn sure we can fly to NJ next year instead of Montreal to see a race!
Today it's time for a champagne toast: Germany going home. The traditional objectif of each WorldCup has been achieved. Life is good.
They were out classed, by a awesome Spanish team, however they did put England to shame, very good team IMO Germany. So Andreas who you rooting for or lets say who do you want to get the cup, interestingly neither team has ever won it, I think.
As I said, the only goal (pun intended) was for Germany NOT to win. That has been achieved. So now I really don't care anymore. The Dutch would be fun since the Spaniards just won the EM, but it doesn't matter. It is a bit like F1: As long as MS doesn't win, I don't care who does.
