Wow at that pace they'll be done by 2013. WTF?
They all have been, in my opinion. The optimist could say they set the camera up and captured whatever they captured at that date. The realist would say they are making these videos for PR effect, and it's in their best interest to show the maximum amount of work possible, and if that's the most they got - this thing is in big trouble. Not to leave anyone out, the pessimist would say they just post-edited COTA branding into an Indiana GP progress video You have to look at this in the following way: They have less than 12 months to get things done, (9 if you believe in the FIA inspection window). Let's keep the numbers easy and say 10 months. Does that video represent 1/10th of the total work being completed? If not, does it show an increase in pace from last month? For every month they underdeliver, they must have a corresponding month where they overdeliver by an equal amount. And if they are slow now, they need to be accelerating their pace, not just keeping it constant. They aren't. No F1 race in Austin in 2012.
Or the optimist would say, the work they are doing right now, wouldn't make for a good video. It's not like they're just clearing the land, and putting down some concrete; the track is more complicated than that
All the more reason from the sidelines this appears not moving along. Well said! Now if only the leadership of this 'effort' would actually provide a rational way forward, I would think about leaving Europe for this race.
An optimistic realist would say, its obvious they took those segments on particular days, and why bother trying to "maximize" the amount of work theyre showing if theyre not trying to "sell" the viewer. Fact : We dont know the job title of the guy who published this. Or for what reason. Seems like a nice fluff piece. Not "we're gonna finish, look, see? Heres our proof, see?"
I booked two rooms in San Marcos, regular rates ($70+), no prepayment, no minimum nights, can cancel 24 hours before. Also reserved one room downtown Austin, rate was $180, but again no mimimum, 24 cancellation. But I believe the event will end up in October, tandem with Brazil, which means they have 14+ months to finish.
Or detour through Lockhart by way of 183 and check out Kreuz's or Blacks..... Maybe now that they got all of the political stuff over with, maybe they'll start doing a little bit more PR?? You check out Hotel San Jose yet? I think I've mentioned it here before. Looks like a neat place; have heard good things, but I have no reason to stay in a hotel in my home town.....
I am super stoked for there to be an F1 race around Austin. I KNEW I moved here for a reason 4 years ago. Looking at all the races lined up with F1, MotoGP, and the V8 Supercars, finishing on time is sorta a must, even though the Aussie series comes in 2013. Let's not forget the supporting races plus all the motorsport industry which will navigate to Austin. For good eats downtown late, check out Bar Chi. From 10:30-1 they have a reverse happy hour with no dish on the HH menu over $5.
The flaw with that is that they are most definitely trying to sell this project. To financiers, to government officials, and to fans. And doing a piss poor job of it. We're all selling, all the time. COTA more than most.
Don't forget to check Buda too! It is the first city outside of Austin and there is a hwy (130) that starts in Buda and goes straight to the track. It's only 10 miles from Buda to the track. San Marcos is 12 miles from Buda. You will go through Buda on the way to the track to get on 130. After Buda is Kyle, a mere 2 miles from Buda and the 130 hwy. There is a large university and lots of rowdy college kids in San Marcos who like to drink and drive to Austin. DO NOT go San Marcos to Austin to Hwy 71 to 130 to the track. IT WILL TAKE FOREVER. Heads up from a bro... As far as the political wrangling, yeah there's a lot of bad vibes in Austin about the track. Not with fans, its all about the state paying the money for the event. Cota had some bad timing, they're not going to get a lot of new fans around here. That's ok, the state needs people to come from out of state for the trust fund to work properly.
Bastrop is just east of the track, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Manor....tons of cool towns border Austin Taylor has a good dance hall.... Book into the Lost Pines Resort by Marriott. That's right next to Fchatter dstacy's ranch IIRC.
It's the same drum he has been pounding thru this entire thread, ever since Moorespeed stated "No investors needed the venture is fully funded." *boom, boom boom* Private money is private... *boom boom boom* Austin Commercial has bid and awarded $100M in contracts to date maybe more.. *boom boom boom* Work continues today and per the published schedule. I have a copy of it right here. *boom boom boom* Did you hear anything?

That's like saying Dallas hated hosting the Superbowl.......yea, right. No Snail Darters willl be harmed in the construction of the COTA, it's just cow pasture, I promise....probably some good 'shrooms out there, better go get 'em ahead of the blade....

Checked out two chains, Choice (Quality, Comfort, etc), and Bestwestern. All is booked, best was still San Marcos. I am leaning toward staying downtown, I understand there are some fun nightspots there.
The Holiday Inn Express on Hwy 71 west? It's just two blocks west of South Lamar. (The Broken Spoke, my F1 weekend headquarters, booze, food, women and music) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The you mention is unavailable, but other HIs in the Austin area should be shot. Some have nightly rates over $400!!
