I,m leaving my hotel in downtown for the track now. It will be hot (90) but if like yesterday, it was not humid and there was a nice breeze.

I thought it was plenty hot. I am actually surprised that the weather is so warm. Heading to the track in a bit.

    No reports for rain, Remy.

Speed TV is going to televise practice and qualifying. Three more hours of F1 coverage today. Yesterday Speed televised both practice sessions also. Practice coverage starts at 8am PST today :)

this is the first year since the USGP started I will not be there. I am usually there for 4+ days. It's ok though...I am sitting in the A/C in front of my 60 inch HDTV watching LeMans and watching the clock in anticipation of th USGP qualifying.

It's going to be a hot one guys...enjoy!

So, it sounds like Hamilton may have changed his engine?

Kimi, now would be a good time to START DRIVING!!! Why is Massa always in P3 and Kimi is in P6 or 7? If both Ferrari's can podium it would help things immensely.

Race number 7: Wasn't Hamilton already scheduled for a fresh mill? (along with most of the drivers) And I thought losing an engine on Friday didn't count, anymore.

Most likely, there's some debate between McLaren and FIA over the rules interpretation when changing an engine after Friday if it didn't go "boom" on track.

Before Massa lost it on Turn 7, he was about to turn the fastest lap of the session. He was .2 up on Vettel's time. I think that Ferrari will be in the mix for qualifying, although I STILL don't know what Raikkonen's problem is.

    Practice 3 report :

Fernando Alonso topped the timesheets for the third straight practice session this morning at Indianapolis, putting in a late lap charge to move ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who is making his Grand Prix debut this weekend for the BMW Sauber team.

Alonso stopped the clocks with a best lap of 1:12.150s, just under two-tenths quicker than Vettel. The third and final session ahead of qualifying saw some drivers opt for fresh tyre and low fuel runs and some not. The result is some finishing the session in unexpected positions on the timesheets.

Lewis Hamilton set the third fastest time in the second McLaren Mercedes ahead of Heikki Kovalainen who really does seem to be well hooked up this weekend in his Renault after his morale boosting result last time out in Montreal.

Nick Heidfeld, unhappy with the balance of his BMW Sauber yesterday, put in nearly as many laps as his rookie team-mate this morning and ended the session fifth fastest ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa for Ferrari.

Ferrari has not show the pace of McLaren so far this weekend, but it would be a surprise if they are unable to challenge for row two of the grid for Sunday’s race.

Giancarlo Fisichella was solidly in the top ten in the second Renault with the eighth fastest time ahead of the Red Bull Renault of David Coulthard and the Williams Toyota of Nico Rosberg – who once again seem closely matched.

Toyota struggled for grip yesterday but seemed more on the pace this morning with Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher 11th and 12th fastest ahead of Anthony Davidson in his Super Aguri Honda. Davidson was actually eighth fastest with a few minutes on the one hour session remaining but was not on track as others improved. Davidson found himself bumped down to 13th position.

Mark Webber set the 14th fastest time in the second Red Bull ahead of Jenson Button in the leading Honda, Tonio Liuzzi in his STR and Takuma Sato. Rubens Barrichello was just 18th fastest ahead of Alex Wurz who is having a tough time of it this weekend in his Williams. Scott Speed, Adrian Sutil and Christijan Albers brought up the bottom of the timesheets.

Engine change is OK - they just went into more depth but basically whatever engine is in the car when it crosses the pit lane exit line today is "the engine" for the next 2 races. So Hammy doesn't lose 10 spots - good, I prefer him up front making Alonso look foolish :)

Why is Massa .5 secs quicker than Raikkonen?

Felipe will be in the fight tomorrow for podium.

edit: that's more like it Kimi...1:12.11
